CLAUDE.md

undetected-chrome-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from andrewlwn77/undetected-chrome-mcp. It costs 1,624 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for developing the undetected-chrome-mcp server, including its setup, virtual-environment requirement, and development commands. The server automates web browsers with an anti-bot-focused Chrome driver.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when installing dependencies, running or testing the server, and following its project-specific development rules.
Why use it?
They prevent development from using the wrong Python environment and document the repository’s required setup.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01624 $0.01624
Opus 5 $0.00812 $0.00812
Sonnet 5 $0.00325 $0.00325
Haiku 4.5 $0.00162 $0.00162

Security

Grade A, and why

undetected-chrome-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CLAUDE.md - Undetected Chrome MCP Server

🚨 CRITICAL: Docker Environment - Virtual Environment REQUIRED

YOU ARE IN A DOCKER CONTAINER. SYSTEM-WIDE PACKAGES DISAPPEAR ON RESTART.

MANDATORY: Always Use Virtual Environment

This project MUST use the virtual environment at ./venv/ for ALL operations:

  • CORRECT: ./venv/bin/python or ./venv/bin/pip
  • WRONG: python3 or pip install (these will be lost on Docker restart!)

Project Overview

undetected-chrome-mcp-server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides browser automation capabilities using undetected-chromedriver for enhanced anti-detection compared to standard Puppeteer. It serves as a drop-in replacement for server-puppeteer with improved capabilities for bypassing modern anti-bot protections.

Key Achievement: Successfully bypasses Reddit's bot detection where standard Puppeteer fails.

Development Commands

Setup and Installation

# ALWAYS check venv exists first
if [ ! -d "venv" ]; then
    python3 -m venv venv
fi

# Install dependencies - ALWAYS use venv pip
./venv/bin/pip install mcp selenium undetected-chromedriver Pillow

# Verify installation
./venv/bin/python -c "import mcp, selenium, undetected_chromedriver; print('✅ All dependencies installed')"

Running the Server

# CORRECT - Uses venv Python
./venv/bin/python run_mcp_server.py
# or
./venv/bin/python -m undetected_chrome_mcp.server

# WRONG - Will fail due to missing dependencies
python3 run_mcp_server.py  # ❌ DO NOT USE

MCP Configuration (.mcp.json)

The server MUST be configured to use the venv Python:

{
  "undetected-chrome": {
    "command": "/workspace/reddit/undetected-chrome-mcp/venv/bin/python",
    "args": ["/workspace/reddit/undetected-chrome-mcp/run_mcp_server.py"],
    "cwd": "/workspace/reddit"
  }
}

Code Quality and Testing

# Run tests - ALWAYS use venv Python
./venv/bin/python test_reddit_automation.py
./venv/bin/python test_functions.py

# Install dev dependencies if needed
./venv/bin/pip install pytest black isort mypy ruff

# Then run quality checks
./venv/bin/pytest tests/
./venv/bin/black src/ tests/
./venv/bin/isort src/ tests/

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
