CLAUDE.md

booklife-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from andylbrummer/booklife-mcp. It costs 1,934 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for BookLife, a server that helps manage personal reading across services such as Hardcover, Libby, Open Library, and local bookstores. They explain how to build, configure, run, and test it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Building and starting the BookLife server, running all or individual Go tests, configuring reading-service access, and understanding where major parts of the code are located.
Why use it?
They give developers the project structure, commands, configuration requirements, and environment variables needed to work on or run the server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01934 $0.01934
Opus 5.5 $0.00774 $0.00774
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00387 $0.00387
Haiku 4.5 $0.00193 $0.00193

Measured 2mo ago against content hash 246642b30d66, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

booklife-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

BookLife is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for managing a personal reading life across multiple platforms. It unifies Hardcover (reading tracker), Libby/OverDrive (library access), Open Library (metadata), and local bookstores into a cohesive assistant that prioritizes free/local options.

Build and Run Commands

# Build the server
cd booklife-mcp && go build -o booklife ./cmd/booklife

# Run the server (requires booklife.kdl config)
./booklife --config booklife.kdl

# Run tests
go test ./...

# Run a single test
go test -run TestName ./internal/...

Environment Variables

Required:

  • HARDCOVER_API_KEY - Hardcover GraphQL API token
  • LIBBY_CLONE_CODE - 8-digit clone code from Libby app (Settings > Copy To Another Device)

Optional:

  • YOUTUBE_API_KEY - For BookTube integration
  • BOOKLIFE_CONFIG_PATH - Config file path (default: ./booklife.kdl)
  • BOOKLIFE_LOG_LEVEL - debug/info/warn/error

Key Patterns

Provider Initialization: Providers are conditionally initialized in server.initProviders() based on config Enabled flags. Tools check for nil providers before executing.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
