fast-resume: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

fast-resume AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from angristan/fast-resume. It costs 624 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for fast-resume, a Rust command-line and terminal interface that searches saved coding-agent sessions and resumes them.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing session adapters, search, resume handoff, indexing, refresh logic, or validation tests.
Why use it?
They describe important rules for safe indexing, valid machine-readable output, refresh behavior, and tests that do not use personal session data.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md.

This is angristan/fast-resume's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on fast-resume itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything fast-resume configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00624 $0.00624
Opus 5 $0.00312 $0.00312
Sonnet 5 $0.00125 $0.00125
Haiku 4.5 $0.00062 $0.00062

Measured 8d ago against content hash e9d5b3938a1c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

fast-resume AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository instructions

Project

  • fast-resume is a Rust 2024 CLI and Ratatui application. The binary is fr.
  • Read docs/development.md for the source map and validation workflow.
  • Read docs/how-it-works.md before changing adapters, refresh behavior, search, or resume handoff.
  • Keep the README focused on discovery. Put detailed user behavior in docs/usage.md.

Behavior

  • Preserve the human CLI unless a change explicitly replaces it.
  • Machine output must remain one valid JSON value on stdout. Send diagnostics and errors to stderr.
  • Do not serialize model::Session directly. It contains conversation content and internal refresh fields.
  • Keep index writes behind the cross-process coordination in index.rs. Reload the manual Tantivy reader after another process can commit.
  • Adapter scans must not delete good indexed data after partial files, malformed rows, inaccessible paths, or incomplete scans.
  • Index user and assistant conversation text. Exclude system payloads, large tool results, and unrelated local command output.
  • Tests must use synthetic session data under TempDir. Do not depend on a developer's real agent history or home directory.

Adding or changing an adapter

  • Implement the Adapter contract in src/adapters/ and register it in src/adapters/mod.rs.
  • Build file-backed incremental refresh on shared::incremental_scan: write a file scan and a parser, and pass both through it. It owns the deletion-safety rule (incomplete scans never delete). Use shared::build_resume_command for the standard binary/yolo/resume shape.
  • Update agent metadata and source paths in src/config.rs.
  • Add focused parser, incremental refresh, deletion-safety, and resume-command tests.
  • Add binary coverage in tests/cli.rs.
  • Update the supported-agent and resume-command documentation.
  • Add and register an agent image only when an appropriate asset is available.

Validation

Run the same core checks as CI:

cargo fmt --all --check
cargo clippy --all-targets --locked -- -D warnings
cargo test --locked
cargo build --release --locked
git diff --check

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
