AGENTS.md — minipainter project guide for coding agents

A CLI + TUI + MCP servers (Claude and ChatGPT) for managing a miniature-paint inventory and doing owned-first cross-brand paint matching over a catalog of 1,607 paints. Node.js, ESM, tested with the built-in runner (npm test → node --test).

Humans: see README.md. CLAUDE.md carries the same paint-catalog rules and takes precedence.

node src/mcp-server.mjs — MCP over stdio (Claude Desktop).
node src/mcp-http-server.mjs — HTTP server on PORT (default 3000): /mcp, /mcp/v3 (ChatGPT search/fetch/match_color), /health, /api/*.

Always run npm test before finishing; keep it green. Tests use import test from 'node:test'

node:assert/strict. External services in tests use in-memory fakes (pg-mem for Postgres) — npm test must never need a real database or network.

Storage (inventory)

Chosen at runtime in src/registry-store.mjs:

DATABASE_URL set → Postgres (owned_paints table). Used by Docker / Render / Fly.
unset → JSON file (~/.minipainting/inventory.json locally, /data/inventory.json in Docker).

Only the inventory (owned paint ids) is in the database; the catalog is always in-image files.
