agent-deck: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

agent-deck AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from asheshgoplani/agent-deck. It costs 2,705 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for Agent Deck, a terminal session manager for AI coding agents. It describes its terminal interface, command-line tool, web interface, and process coordinator, and gives container-based verification rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when contributing code, running formatting or build checks, and validating changes in the required containers.
Why use it?
They prevent tests from changing a developer's real home directory or terminal-session server and define how checks should match continuous integration.

About the project

Agent Deck is a terminal session manager that lets developers monitor and switch between multiple AI coding-agent sessions from one text interface. It helps people organize agents working across projects with groups, search, forking, Git worktrees, cost tracking, and a phone-controlled conductor. The catalogue entries extend its use with skills, commands, and a plugin.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02705 $0.02705
Opus 5.5 $0.01082 $0.01082
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00541 $0.00541
Haiku 4.5 $0.00270 $0.00270

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-deck AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

For coding agents (Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Gemini, Claude Code...) in this repo. Humans: CONTRIBUTING.md says the same at more length.

What this is

Agent Deck is a terminal session manager for AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, OpenCode and others). Each session runs in tmux; one Go binary, agent-deck, provides the TUI (Bubble Tea), the CLI, a web UI and the conductor.

Safety rule: tests never touch a real HOME or your tmux server

The tests start real tmux servers and processes and write agent-deck state. Run go test only inside a container, never on your host. That also rules out make test, make ci and the lefthook pre-push hook on a host: all three run go test.

# Gates, PR body checks and tests. On a host it skips go test and prints the docker run command.
FULL_TESTS=1 skills/agent-deck/scripts/contributing/self-check.sh pr-body.md
# CI's Go checks (gofmt, build, vet, golangci-lint, race tests) in throwaway containers.
make verify-docker
make verify-docker VERIFY_ARGS="--stages test --pkgs ./internal/session/..."

self-check.sh counts as inside a container when /.dockerenv or /run/.containerenv exists or AGENTDECK_TEST_CONTAINER=1 is set. Set that variable only when it is true.

What guards the code if a test still runs somewhere it should not:

  • Packages with a testmain_test.go (not every package has one) call, in TestMain, testutil.IsolateHome() (temp HOME, cleared XDG_* and tool config dirs such as CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, AGENTDECK_PROFILE=_test) and testutil.IsolateTmuxSocket() (unsets TMUX/TMUX_PANE, private TMUX_TMPDIR). internal/testutil/testmain_audit_test.go fails any testmain_test.go defining TestMain that skips them.
  • internal/sandboxguard panics when a test binary resolves a path under the real home (passwd home or the HOME the binary started with) and names the env var it came through.
  • internal/tmux panics before spawning tmux when a test binary would reach your default tmux socket (test_isolation_guard.go, default_socket_guard.go). There is no opt-out.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
