Web-Algebra: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

Web-Algebra AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from AtomGraph/Web-Algebra. It costs 2,042 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A repository instruction file for Web-Algebra, a tool that represents Linked Data operations as JSON plans and runs them as a command-line program or MCP server. It explains the project, its formal rules, commands, tests, and handling of certificates and secrets.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it as a guide when working on Web-Algebra, including its JSON operation language, command-line interface, MCP server, documentation, and test commands.
Why use it?
It gives coding agents the project context and local rules they need before changing or testing the code.

Instructions file for CodexOpenCode

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md.

This is AtomGraph/Web-Algebra's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on Web-Algebra itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything Web-Algebra configures →

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is export CERT_PEM_PATH=../LinkedDataHub/ssl/owner/cert.pem.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02042 $0.02042
Opus 5.5 $0.00817 $0.00817
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00408 $0.00408
Haiku 4.5 $0.00204 $0.00204

Security

Grade A, and why

Web-Algebra AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What this is

Web Algebra is a composable algebra of RDF operations — loading, querying, transforming and writing Linked Data — written as a JSON DSL. A plan is a tree of operations that a model can generate from a natural-language instruction and the interpreter evaluates. It runs as a CLI (web-algebra) and as an MCP server (web-algebra-mcp, stdio; web_algebra.server:app, streamable HTTP).

formal-semantics.md is the normative specification: its evaluation model is XPath/XSLT's, applied to RDF (flat sequences, the empty sequence as Unit, a focus of Current/Position/Last, typed errors), and §4 is the operation catalogue. Appendix A covers the LinkedDataHub (ldh-) operations.

Commands

uv sync --group dev # install, with pytest and ruff
uv run ruff check # lint, as CI runs it
uv run pytest # the offline suite, as CI runs it
uv run pytest -m ldh # against a LinkedDataHub (see below)
uv run web-algebra --from-json examples/city-profiles/plan.json
uv run web-algebra-mcp # MCP server, stdio
uv run uvicorn web_algebra.server:app --reload # MCP server, streamable HTTP

CI runs ruff check and pytest on Python 3.10 to 3.14, from the locked environment (uv sync --locked: change pyproject.toml, then uv lock).

A v* tag publishes to PyPI and makes a GitHub Release from the version's section of CHANGELOG.md (.github/workflows/release.yml). It cannot be undone, so never push a tag without being asked. A release bumps the version in pyproject.toml and server.json (the MCP Registry entry) together; tests/test_packaging.py checks they agree.

Certificates and secrets

The CLI, the MCP server and the tests read the LinkedDataHub client certificate from CERT_PEM_PATH and its password from CERT_PASSWORD (the CLI's --cert_pem_path / --cert_password override them). Read the password from a file rather than typing it:

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
