snyk-mcp-rest: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

snyk-mcp-rest copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from axelspringer/snyk-mcp-rest. It costs 1,859 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project-specific instructions for working on a TypeScript client that calls the Snyk REST API, a service for finding security problems in software. They explain which files are generated and how to regenerate, build, and use the client.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when adding or fixing API client behavior, changing the OpenAPI description or generator settings, regenerating the client, or building and testing the package.
Why use it?
They help prevent manual changes to generated files that would be overwritten later. They also keep custom code separate from code produced from the API description.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01859 $0.01859
Opus 5 $0.00929 $0.00929
Sonnet 5 $0.00372 $0.00372
Haiku 4.5 $0.00186 $0.00186

Security

Grade A, and why

snyk-mcp-rest copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

This is an auto-generated TypeScript client for the Snyk REST API built with OpenAPI Generator. The architecture separates generated code (src/generated/) from custom code (src/index.ts), with the entry point re-exporting the generated API classes.

Critical: Generated Code Protection

NEVER edit files in src/generated/ - they are auto-generated from res/snyk-openapi-2025-11-05.json via OpenAPI Generator. NEVER edit res/snyk-openapi-2025-11-05.json.

  • Generated code is recreated on every npm run generate
  • To fix issues in generated code, modify the OpenAPI spec or openapitools.json config
  • Coverage exclusion explicitly ignores src/generated/** (see vitest.config.ts)

Code Generation Workflow

The project uses OpenAPI Generator (typescript-axios template) configured in openapitools.json:

npm run generate # Regenerates src/generated/ from OpenAPI spec
npm run build # Compiles TypeScript to dist/
npm run prepare # Runs both generate + build (used in package lifecycle)

Generator config details:

  • Output: ./src/generated
  • Template: typescript-axios (Axios-based HTTP client)
  • Key options: useSingleRequestParameter: true (all API params in one object)
  • Organized into models/ (TypeScript interfaces) and api/ (API classes)

API Usage Patterns

All Snyk API calls require a version parameter (e.g., '2024-11-05'). Authentication uses either apiKey or accessToken:

const config = new Configuration({
  apiKey: process.env.SNYK_API_KEY,
  basePath: 'https://api.snyk.io/rest'
});

const orgsApi = new OrgsApi(config);
const response = await orgsApi.listOrgs({ version: '2024-11-05' });

Key API classes available: OrgsApi, ProjectsApi, IssuesApi, GroupsApi, etc. (see src/generated/api/ for full list).

Testing Requirements

CRITICAL: After making code changes, always follow this workflow:

  1. Fix linting and syntax errors first
    • Run TypeScript compiler to check for syntax errors: npx tsc --noEmit
    • Fix all TypeScript compilation errors before proceeding
    • Ensure code passes linting rules
    • Never proceed to testing with compilation errors

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
