gh-infra: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

gh-infra CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from babarot/gh-infra. It costs 654 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a Go command-line tool that manages infrastructure across repositories. They assign responsibilities to packages and require dependencies to flow in one direction without circular references.

In plain words
What is it for?
Adding or changing CLI commands, repository planning and application, YAML manifests, GitHub integration, terminal output, logging, concurrent helpers, and YAML editing.
Why use it?
They prevent code from becoming tangled by making it clear where each feature belongs and which packages may depend on each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00654 $0.00654
Opus 5 $0.00327 $0.00327
Sonnet 5 $0.00131 $0.00131
Haiku 4.5 $0.00065 $0.00065

Security

Grade A, and why

gh-infra CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Package Responsibilities

Package Role
cmd Cobra CLI command definitions and flag handling
internal/infra Orchestrator — drives plan, apply, import workflows
internal/fileset File-set resolution, templating, patching
internal/importer Import logic: match existing repos, reverse-template, write YAML
internal/repository Per-repository state, diff, plan, apply, export
internal/manifest YAML manifest parsing, validation, type definitions, source expansion, and GitHub identity resolution
internal/gh GitHub CLI (gh) runner abstraction
internal/ui Terminal UI: printer, diff viewer, progress, confirm
internal/parallel Generic concurrent map utility
internal/logger slog-based structured logger
internal/yamledit In-place YAML node editor (preserves formatting)

Package Dependency Rules

The internal packages form a clean DAG (no circular dependencies). Respect the following layering:

Layer 0 (leaves): logger, parallel, yamledit — no internal imports allowed
Layer 1: gh (→ logger), ui (→ logger)
Layer 2: manifest (→ gh)
Layer 3: fileset (→ manifest, gh, parallel), repository (→ manifest, gh, logger, parallel)
Layer 4: importer (→ fileset, repository, manifest, gh, yamledit)
Layer 5: infra (→ orchestrator, may import all above + ui)
Layer 6: cmd (→ infra, ui, manifest, gh, logger, fileset)

Key constraints:

  • internal/ui must NOT depend on domain packages (manifest, repository, infra, etc.) — it is a pure presentation layer
  • Domain packages (repository, importer, fileset, manifest) must NOT depend on internal/ui in production code — the dependency DAG is strictly top-down. When domain packages need progress/diagnostic callbacks, they define their own interfaces and receive implementations from infra (Layer 5). Do NOT "unify" these interfaces into ui — that would leak presentation concerns into the domain layer. (Test files (*_test.go) may import ui for test helpers such as formatting utilities; this does not affect the production dependency graph.)
  • internal/manifest must NOT depend on upper layers — it is the manifest/schema layer and also owns manifest-adjacent resolution logic (for example source expansion and GitHub identity resolution)
  • internal/infra is the orchestrator; other internal packages must NOT depend on it (except cmd)
  • Leaf packages (logger, parallel, yamledit) must NOT import any internal package
  • cmd should access workflow/domain logic through infra where practical. Small direct imports of lower layers are acceptable for thin CLI concerns such as validation/path resolution or shared CLI-only types (for example manifest in validate, fileset for diff-entry helpers).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
