This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

IMPORTANT: Always read TASKS.md first before starting any work. Check TASKS.md for the current development phase and continue from the next uncompleted task.

Working Process

1. Start by reading TASKS.md to understand:

   • Current development phase
   • Completed tasks (marked with [x])
   • Next pending tasks (marked with [ ])
   • Overall project roadmap

2. Continue work from the next uncompleted task in TASKS.md

3. Update TASKS.md as you complete tasks

Project Overview

This is a Python MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides minidump crash analysis capabilities. The project uses FastMCP to create both server and client interfaces for analyzing Windows crash dump files using Rust-based tools.

Development Commands

Environment Setup

uv sync              # Install dependencies

Install Rust Tools

just install-tools   # Installs minidump-stackwalk and dump_syms to minidumpmcp/tools/bin/

Code Quality

ruff check           # Lint code
ruff format          # Format code  
mypy .               # Type checking
pytest               # Run tests
pytest tests/test_stackwalk.py  # Run specific test file

Code Quality Checks

IMPORTANT: After completing any implementation task, you MUST automatically run the following commands in this exact order:

1. ruff check --fix - Fix linting issues automatically
2. ruff format - Format code (Black-compatible formatting)
3. mypy . - Run type checking

If any of these commands fail:

• Fix the issues reported
• Re-run all commands until they pass
• Only consider the task complete when all checks pass

Do NOT ask the user for permission to run these checks - they are mandatory after any code changes.
