azdoutil: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

azdoutil CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from benday-inc/azdoutil. It costs 9,389 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository-specific instructions for azdoutil, a .NET command-line tool that automates Azure DevOps tasks such as work items, build definitions, release definitions, metrics, and test data.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing azdoutil code, running its tests, creating a NuGet package, or testing a local installation on Linux, macOS, or Windows.
Why use it?
They give an agent the project structure and the commands needed to build, test, package, install, and uninstall the tool correctly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.09389 $0.09389
Opus 5 $0.04695 $0.04695
Sonnet 5 $0.01878 $0.01878
Haiku 4.5 $0.00939 $0.00939

Security

Grade A, and why

azdoutil CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

azdoutil is a .NET CLI tool distributed as a global tool via NuGet that provides utilities for Azure DevOps automation. The tool helps with tasks like managing work items, build/release definitions, flow metrics calculation, and test data generation.

Solution Structure

The solution uses a three-project architecture:

  1. Benday.AzureDevOpsUtil.Api - Core library containing all business logic, commands, and Azure DevOps API integration
  2. Benday.AzureDevOpsUtil.ConsoleUi - Minimal console entry point that bootstraps the CLI (packaged as .NET global tool)
  3. Benday.AzureDevOpsUtil.UnitTests - Unit tests

Multi-targeted to .NET 8.0, 9.0, and 10.0.

Build and Test Commands

Build

dotnet build

Run Tests

dotnet test

Pack for NuGet

dotnet pack --configuration Release --output ./artifacts

Install Locally for Testing

# From the repository root
./install.sh # On Linux/macOS
./install.ps1 # On Windows (PowerShell)

Uninstall

./uninstall.sh # On Linux/macOS
./uninstall.ps1 # On Windows (PowerShell)

Core Architecture

Command Framework Pattern

The entire CLI is built on the Benday.CommandsFramework library (v5 — restored from the LocalNuGet feed until v5 is published) which provides automatic command discovery and execution:

  • Commands are decorated with [Command] attributes specifying category, name, and description (IsAsync is gone in v5 — the type system says how a command runs)
  • The framework automatically discovers all command classes in the Api assembly
  • Program.cs (~30 lines) creates a DefaultProgram instance and delegates everything to the framework; Main returns the exit code from RunAsync — a Main that discards it would silently always exit 0
  • Arguments are defined by overriding GetArguments() and returning a fluent-built ArgumentCollection (there is no [Argument] attribute in the framework)
  • v5 notes: there is one Command base class (SynchronousCommand is gone; a sequential command returns Task.CompletedTask); OnExecute takes a CancellationToken, which most commands accept but do not yet thread through to their HTTP calls; arguments render and are documented in POSIX form (--name value) while the old /name:value form still parses with a deprecation warning on stderr; CommandRegistryFixture keeps the framework's registry and argument checks in the test suite (duplicate/reserved names like tui fail there rather than silently at run time)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
