skills: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

skills AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from BetterPromptme/skills. It costs 938 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for BetterPromptme/skills, a project that automatically builds skill instruction files from backend data. They describe its folders, environments, and scheduled GitHub Actions workflow.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing the skill template, build pipeline, staging or production setup, or the workflow that commits generated files and sends their versioned links back to the backend.
Why use it?
They explain where source templates belong and warn that generated folders are overwritten. This helps contributors avoid editing build outputs or mixing staging and production files.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00938 $0.00938
Opus 5 $0.00469 $0.00469
Sonnet 5 $0.00188 $0.00188
Haiku 4.5 $0.00094 $0.00094

Security

Grade A, and why

skills AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Overview

This repo contains BetterPrompt skills — auto-generated SKILL.md files. A GitHub Actions cronjob (every 15 min) fetches pending skill data from the backend API, renders each skill's markdown using Handlebars, commits each individually, pushes, and writes the commit-pinned skillmdUrl back to the backend.

The pipeline supports two environments (staging and production) with separate backends, secrets, and output directories.

Do not hand-edit files in skills/ or .testing/ — they are overwritten on every build.

Architecture

  • template/SKILL.md — Handlebars template with {{{variable}}} placeholders and {{#if}}/{{#each}} blocks. Single source of truth for the generated skill format.
  • skills/ — Output directory for production SKILL.md files (skills/<name>/SKILL.md). Treated as build artifacts.
  • .testing/staging/skills/ — Output directory for staging SKILL.md files (.testing/staging/skills/<name>/SKILL.md). Kept separate to avoid slug collisions with production.
  • builder/ — TypeScript/Bun project containing the build pipeline (index.ts) and the skillmd rendering logic (skillmd/build-skillmd.ts).
  • .github/workflows/generate-skillmd-staging.yml — GitHub Actions workflow for staging (runs every 5 min on self-hosted runner).
  • .github/workflows/generate-skillmd-production.yml — GitHub Actions workflow for production (runs every 15 min on ubuntu-latest).

Multi-Environment Setup

Directory layout

skills/<name>/SKILL.md # production
.testing/staging/skills/<name>/SKILL.md # staging

Staging uses a dot-prefixed .testing/ directory to stay hidden by convention. The structure is extensible for future environments (e.g., .testing/dev/skills/).

Workflow scheduling

Each environment has its own workflow file with an independent cron schedule. Each environment uses its own concurrency group (skillmd-gen-staging, skillmd-gen-production) to prevent overlapping runs within the same environment without blocking the other. The staging job has a 5-minute timeout to prevent hanging when the self-hosted runner is unavailable. Individual workflows can be disabled from the GitHub Actions UI.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
