apra-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

apra-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from Bigred97/apra-mcp. It costs 446 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository-specific instructions for apra-mcp, a server that provides selected Australian Prudential Regulation Authority statistics. APRA is Australia’s financial regulator, and the instructions cover its data sources, modules, formats, and repository conventions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when working on APRA quarterly and banking datasets, XLSX parsing, curated data files, caching, data shaping, or the apra_mcp Python package.
Why use it?
They explain where the data comes from, how it is licensed, and which files and practices the project requires. This reduces mistakes when changing or extending the repository.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00446 $0.00446
Opus 5 $0.00223 $0.00223
Sonnet 5 $0.00089 $0.00089
Haiku 4.5 $0.00045 $0.00045

Measured today against content hash e197e686896f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

apra-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

apra-mcp

Sister MCP in the Australian Public Data stack. See ../CLAUDE.md for portfolio-wide conventions (tool surface, trust contract, quality bar, test taxonomy, anti-patterns, release process — read it even though this session may not auto-load it if started inside this repo). Use the sister-release skill for releases.

Repo-specific module set

Extras beyond the standard sister module set (see parent): parsing.py — XLSX reader (long-format pivots common for ADI / super fund data); discovery.py — CKAN auto-discovery for data.gov.au mirrors; catalog.py — search ranking.

Repo-specific gotchas

  • Licence is CC-BY 3.0 AU, NOT 4.0 — APRA-specific. Don't use the 4.0 attribution string by accident.
  • Quarterly cadence — most datasets land within 6-8 weeks of quarter end. stale threshold is 6 months.
  • AASB17 transition in 2023 split insurance datasets into pre-AASB17 historical and current series.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
