percival-deep-research: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

percival-deep-research AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from bill-kopp-ai-dev/percival-deep-research. It costs 895 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A project-specific instruction file for the percival-deep-research repository. It records its formatting, test, patching, security, and Docker operating rules, but does not describe a general-purpose add-on.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when working on that repository to run its tests and formatting checks, apply its patch script, preserve protections around external content, and interpret Docker operations.
Why use it?
It keeps work in that repository aligned with its existing checks and handling rules.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md.

This is bill-kopp-ai-dev/percival-deep-research's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on percival-deep-research itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything percival-deep-research configures →

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /home/bill/Projects/percival-deep-research.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00895 $0.00895
Opus 5.5 $0.00358 $0.00358
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00179 $0.00179
Haiku 4.5 $0.00089 $0.00089

Measured 6d ago against content hash c034d58edef4, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

percival-deep-research AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Owner and operating model

Bill Kopp ([email protected]) is the sole owner, operator, decision-maker, and signatory for this application and its IaC. The company is Positronic Bean Labs (PBLabs), website labs.positronicbean.com. Bill is the only person currently working on these projects.

  • A direct instruction or decision from Bill authorizes the work within its stated scope. Do not request a second approval, repeat an already recorded decision, or invent another owner/reviewer or handoff.
  • Keep process proportional: use one canonical source of truth and record evidence once per relevant source revision or image ID. Link to that evidence instead of duplicating it across plans and reports. Run only checks relevant to the changed risk; do not repeat equivalent checks as separate acceptance gates.
  • An instruction authorizes only its stated scope. Do not infer production changes or publication from approval of local work or a test rollout.
  • Before a runtime mutation, verify the target and its current image/configuration and preserve a practical rollback path. Use the owning manager and its supported interface; never edit manager state by hand. This is an operational safety check, not an additional approval gate.

Working conventions

  • Lint/format: uv run --with ruff ruff check . + uv run --with ruff ruff format ..
  • Tests: uv run pytest -q (coverage >=70% enforced by the canonical command itself, via addopts in pyproject.toml).
  • Patch gpt-researcher: run uv run python scripts/patch_gpt_researcher.py after each uv sync until upstream fixes NameError: name 'Any'. The script is a no-op for unaffected versions and refuses unsupported versions.
  • Research runs in an isolated worker process (percival_research/research_worker.py); the parent enforces the timeout and kills the worker. Do not move the pipeline back in-process.
  • Conventional Commits; scope = area afetada.
  • Preserve hardening in every change: external content remains wrapped in an XML envelope or prefixed with [SECURITY WARNING:...].

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
