skilllint: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

skilllint CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from bitflight-devops/skilllint. It costs 253 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Development instructions for skilllint, a tool that checks AI-agent add-ons such as skills and plugins. It covers their file structure, metadata fields, and token limits across several coding-agent tools.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when building or checking skills, plugins, or instruction files for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and similar tools.
Why use it?
It helps catch incorrectly structured add-ons and metadata errors before they are used. It also helps keep instruction files within allowed token limits.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00253 $0.00253
Opus 5.5 $0.00101 $0.00101
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00051 $0.00051
Haiku 4.5 $0.00025 $0.00025

Security

Grade A, and why

skilllint CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 24d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

skilllint — Claude Development Notes

@AGENTS.md

This file adds Claude-specific orchestration behavior to the universal repository contract in AGENTS.md.

Orchestrator delegation discipline

Claude operates as an orchestrator — it coordinates agents rather than doing file-level work itself.

The rule: Do not read a source file, config, or test file into the orchestrator context merely to hand its contents to a subagent. Pass the file path and task boundary to the subagent instead. Read files directly when the current task is itself investigation, review, verification, or an edit that requires that evidence.

Why this matters:

  • Reading files consumes shared context window space.
  • Agents have fresh context and can discover, diagnose, and fix within a delegated boundary.
  • The orchestrator stays lightweight when delegation is actually useful.

For CI failures specifically:

  • Prefer delegating log fetching, root-cause analysis, and the fix as one bounded task when a suitable subagent is available.
  • Verify the resulting artifact or diff before repeating the subagent's conclusions as evidence.

For formatting/lint fixes:

  • Delegate mechanical fixes when that reduces context load, but keep the repository verification contract from AGENTS.md authoritative.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
