nodus-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

nodus-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from BlaineHeffron/nodus-mcp. It costs 164 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for maintaining nodus-mcp, a small gateway that connects an AI coding agent to Nodus’s authenticated local MCP service. A gateway passes approved requests between two programs.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing nodus-mcp, especially its allowed tools, connection details, schemas, tests, type checks, or build process.
Why use it?
They define the limits and checks needed to keep the gateway aligned with Nodus and to report when Nodus is unavailable.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00164 $0.00164
Opus 5 $0.00082 $0.00082
Sonnet 5 $0.00033 $0.00033
Haiku 4.5 $0.00016 $0.00016

Security

Grade A, and why

nodus-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

nodus-mcp

Thin stdio gateway to Nodus's authenticated loopback MCP server.

Minimize code

Ship the feature with the fewest lines. Do not add parallel scopes, policy layers, wrappers, or helpers unless an existing path cannot do the job. Prefer deleting and reusing over extending. Extra code is extra bugs and extra maintenance.

Invariants

  • Keep graph logic and graph caches in Nodus, not this gateway.
  • Expose only the contracted allowlist and mirror live upstream schemas.
  • Preserve the exact loopback URL, path, authentication, and no-redirect policy.
  • When Nodus is unavailable, report the degraded capability; never fabricate an empty graph result.

Verification

  • Run npm test, npm run typecheck, and npm run build.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
