hey-clawd: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

hey-clawd CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code, Codex from BlueOcean223/hey-clawd. It costs 1,753 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A project instruction file for hey-clawd, a macOS desktop pet that reacts to activity from several AI coding tools. It also documents how to build the app and test its permission-approval bubbles.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing, building, running, or testing the hey-clawd macOS app, including its animated activity states, coding-tool hooks, or permission controls.
Why use it?
It explains the project’s integrations and repeatable build and test commands, so an agent can work on the app without guessing how it is structured or verified.

Written for Claude Code and Codex: PreToolUse hook event, but also reads ~/.codex or $CODEX_HOME. Also seen: mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code; mentions Codex.

This is BlueOcean223/hey-clawd's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on hey-clawd itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything hey-clawd configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01753 $0.01753
Opus 5 $0.00877 $0.00877
Sonnet 5 $0.00351 $0.00351
Haiku 4.5 $0.00175 $0.00175

Security

Grade A, and why

hey-clawd CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What is hey-clawd

A macOS desktop pet (crab character) that reacts to AI coding sessions in real time. It integrates with Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI, CodeBuddy, and Pi via hooks/extensions, showing animated states (idle, thinking, working, error, etc.) based on tool activity. It also handles permission approvals for Claude Code, CodeBuddy, and Codex CLI tool use via floating bubbles.

Build & Run

# Build (SPM)
swift build
swift build -c release

# Build (Xcode — used by CI)
xcodebuild -project hey-clawd.xcodeproj -scheme hey-clawd -configuration Release archive

# Run the built executable
.build/debug/hey-clawd

# Swift tests (SVG pipeline, HTTP server, hook installer, state-machine animation)
swift test

# Permission bubble integration tests
./test-bubble.sh all # all test cases
./test-bubble.sh single # single permission request
./test-bubble.sh stack # concurrent bubble stacking
./test-bubble.sh passthrough # auto-allow passthrough tools
./test-bubble.sh disconnect # client disconnect cleanup
./test-bubble.sh dnd # do-not-disturb mode

# SVG animation visual smoke test (exercises /debug/svg on a running app)
./test-animations.sh

# Hook-side Node tests
cd hooks && node test/index.js

Tests/HeyClawdAppTests/ covers SVG parsing/rendering (SVGParserTests, CALayerRendererTests, CAAnimationBuilderTests, SVGBaselineScreenshotTests), the HTTP server, hook installation, permission response schemas, state-machine animation, and the full PetView pipeline. Permission-bubble and end-to-end UX paths are still validated via test-bubble.sh plus manual verification.

Architecture

Swift App (Sources/)

The app is a menu-bar-only macOS app (LSUIElement=true) built with Swift 6.0 and SPM. Single external dependency: Sparkle (auto-update). The pet is rendered with a custom Core Animation–based SVG pipeline — no WebView.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
