u2-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

u2-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from bpamiri/u2-mcp. It costs 2,084 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for u2-mcp, a Python server that lets AI assistants work with Rocket Universe and UniData databases. It explains the project, commands, architecture, and ways the server communicates.

In plain words
What is it for?
Running tests, checking code style and types, understanding the server structure, and working with its database and communication modes.
Why use it?
It gives an agent the project context and development commands needed to work in the repository without guessing.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02084 $0.02084
Opus 5 $0.01042 $0.01042
Sonnet 5 $0.00417 $0.00417
Haiku 4.5 $0.00208 $0.00208

Security

Grade A, and why

u2-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

u2-mcp is a Python MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that enables AI assistants to interact with Rocket Universe and UniData MultiValue databases. It uses Rocket's official uopy package and preserves native MultiValue semantics (multivalues, subvalues, dynamic arrays) rather than flattening to relational models.

Development Commands

pip install -e ".[dev]" # Install with dev dependencies

pytest # All tests
pytest tests/test_config.py # Single file
pytest tests/test_utils/test_safety.py -k "test_name" # Single test
pytest --cov=u2_mcp --cov-report=html # With coverage
pytest tests/integration/ --run-integration # Integration tests (requires DB)

ruff check . # Lint
ruff format . # Format
mypy src/ # Type check

Architecture

Transport Modes

The server (server.py:main) supports three transport modes via CLI args:

  • stdio (default): u2-mcp — for Claude Desktop local connections
  • SSE (legacy): u2-mcp --http — HTTP/SSE for centralized deployment
  • Streamable HTTP: u2-mcp --streamable-http — for Claude.ai Integrations with OAuth

Tool Registration Pattern

Tools are registered via @mcp.tool() decorators on the module-level mcp FastMCP instance defined in server.py. Each tool module (tools/*.py) imports mcp from ..server and decorates its functions. The server.py bottom imports these modules to trigger registration:

# server.py registers tools by importing tool modules
from .tools import dictionary, files, query, subroutine, transaction

New tools: create a function in the appropriate tools/ module with @mcp.tool(). Resources use @mcp.resource("u2://name").

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
