ChatGPT MD is an Obsidian plugin that lets users chat with AI inside their notes, reference notes through wiki links, and optionally let the AI search the vault, read notes, or browse the web with approval. It is for writers and developers who want cloud or locally hosted AI assistance while keeping their work in an Obsidian vault. The catalogue entries provide instructions for using the plugin.
Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5 | $0.02130 | $0.02130 |
| Opus 5 | $0.01065 | $0.01065 |

Grade A, and why
chatgpt-md AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 214 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Project overview
chatgpt-md is an Obsidian community plugin that brings LLM workflows into markdown notes. It supports:
- Chat interactions directly inside Obsidian notes.
- Multiple providers: OpenAI, OpenRouter, Anthropic, Gemini, Ollama, LM Studio, Z.AI, and compatible APIs.
- Per-note configuration through YAML frontmatter.
- Streaming responses.
- Human-approved AI tool calls for vault and web search workflows.
The plugin is TypeScript, bundled by esbuild, and runs inside the Obsidian plugin runtime.
Validation commands
Use npm for validation unless the project explicitly changes package-manager policy.
npm run build
npm test -- --runInBand
npm run lint
Lint runs the official Obsidian plugin rules via eslint-plugin-obsidianmd. Expected state: 0 errors and a small set of known warnings (untyped tool results in ToolService, the prefer-setting-definitions nudge). Do not add new warnings; do not treat the known ones as task blockers. no-unsupported-api cannot be disabled inline — it validates every API call against minAppVersion in manifest.json.
Compatibility floor and dependency pins
minAppVersionis 1.11.4, pinned by the SecretStorage/SecretComponentcredential APIs (ApiAuthService). Copilot uses the same floor.- The
obsidiandevDependency is pinned to the same 1.11.4 sotscenforces the floor alongside the lint rule. Never set it back tolatest. @codemirror/state(6.5.0) and@codemirror/view(6.38.6) must stay exact:obsidiandeclares them as exact peers.typescriptis 6.x latest (<6.1.0): TypeScript 7 is blocked by@typescript-eslintpeer ranges.- When raising
minAppVersion, update theobsidiantypings pin in the same change.
Releasing
- Merge work to
master, validate (npm test -- --runInBand,npm run build). node update-version.mjs <x.y.z>— updatespackage.json,manifest.json,versions.json, commits, and tags.- Push
masterand the tag. - Create the GitHub release with the three Obsidian-required assets:
main.js,manifest.json,styles.css.versions.jsongates updates so users on older Obsidian stay on the last compatible release.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
