commonplace: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

commonplace CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from briannaworkman/commonplace. It costs 192 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for commonplace, which contains two knowledge vaults: a starter vault for work and a finished vault kept as a read-only reference.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when ingesting, querying, or checking the vaults; work in starter/ and leave the repository root and finished/ unchanged.
Why use it?
They prevent an agent from editing the wrong directory or mixing the completed reference material into the working vault.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00192 $0.00192
Opus 5 $0.00096 $0.00096
Sonnet 5 $0.00038 $0.00038
Haiku 4.5 $0.00019 $0.00019

Security

Grade A, and why

commonplace CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You're at the repo root — the vault is one level down

This repository holds two vaults. Nothing should be ingested or edited here at the root.

  • starter/ — the workshop kit. Two sources in raw/, empty wiki/. Work here.
  • finished/ — the completed reference. Same kit after one /ingest. Read-only.

If someone asks you to ingest, query, or lint from this directory

They almost certainly meant to open starter/. Tell them, and offer to work in starter/ instead — do not create raw/ or wiki/ folders at the repo root, and do not ingest finished/ into anything.

Each subfolder has its own CLAUDE.md with the real contract. Read starter/CLAUDE.md before doing any work in starter/.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
