paperclip-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

paperclip-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from bruhsb/paperclip-mcp. It costs 1,877 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for paperclip-mcp, a service that lets Claude Code agents call Paperclip's project-management API through MCP, a standard way to expose tools to AI agents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing paperclip-mcp, checking or restarting its local server, viewing logs, opening the dashboard, or understanding its project structure.
Why use it?
They give developers the commands and operating rules needed to run the local development server safely, including how to preserve its stored data.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01877 $0.01877
Opus 5 $0.00938 $0.00938
Sonnet 5 $0.00375 $0.00375
Haiku 4.5 $0.00188 $0.00188

Security

Grade A, and why

paperclip-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Project

paperclip-mcp is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) stdio server that exposes the Paperclip control plane API as callable tools for Claude Code agents. It translates MCP tool requests into Paperclip REST API calls over HTTP.

Local Paperclip dev server

A persistent Paperclip server runs in Podman alongside this repo for development. See docs/guides/local-stack.md for full setup; everyday commands (run from this repo's root):

Action Command
Check if running curl -sf http://127.0.0.1:3100/api/health | jq .
Start (if stopped) podman-compose --profile external-db up -d
Stop (keeps volumes + data) podman-compose --profile external-db stop
Restart podman-compose --profile external-db restart
Tail logs podman logs -f paperclip
Dashboard URL http://127.0.0.1:3100

Do NOT use down -v unless you want to wipe the Postgres volume. down without -v removes containers but preserves the paperclip-data and paperclip-pg-data named volumes.

The MCP server is wired via .mcp.json using npx paperclip-mcp (published package). Public skills under skills/ can be symlinked into your local ~/.claude/skills/ so Claude Code picks them up automatically.

Commands

Task Command
Build npm run build
Dev (live TS) npm run dev
Start (compiled) npm run start

Format npm run format
Format check (manual) npm run format:check
Run all tests npm run test

Check doc links npm run docs:check

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
