pon: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

pon AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from can1357/pon. It costs 489 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for pon, a codebase with rules for managing dependencies in a shared workspace and a central root Cargo.toml file.

In plain words
What is it for?
They explain how to declare a dependency centrally, add it correctly, use it in the project, and follow the workspace’s dependency contract.
Why use it?
They prevent dependency declarations from becoming scattered or inconsistent across the workspace.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00489 $0.00489
Opus 5.5 $0.00196 $0.00196
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00098 $0.00098
Haiku 4.5 $0.00049 $0.00049

Security

Grade A, and why

pon AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Dependency Management Policy & Workspace Contracts

All agents (and human developers) operating on the pon workspace must strictly adhere to the centralized dependency management pattern. This policy prevents dependency fracturing, ensures unified versioning across all modules, and simplifies workspace builds.

1. Centralized Dependency Declaration

The Golden Rule

  • All dependencies—both external and internal—must be declared in the root Cargo.toml file under the [workspace.dependencies] table.
  • Individual member manifests (e.g., pon-codegen/Cargo.toml) must never specify inline versions, git repositories, or features directly. They must always inherit from the workspace.

How to Add/Use a Dependency

Step 1: Declare in the Root Cargo.toml

Add the dependency under the [workspace.dependencies] table in the root manifest.

# Root Cargo.toml
[workspace.dependencies]
# External dependencies
anyhow = "1"
cranelift-codegen = "=0.133.1"

# Internal path dependencies
pon-gc = { path = "pon-gc" }
Step 2: Inherit in Member Cargo.toml

In the member crate's manifest, import the dependency by setting workspace = true.

# Member Cargo.toml (e.g., pon-runtime/Cargo.toml)
[dependencies]
anyhow.workspace = true
pon-gc.workspace = true

2. Prohibited Practices

  • No Inline Versions: Never write anyhow = "1.0.80" in a member crate. It must be anyhow.workspace = true.
  • No Direct Git Dependencies: Git source declarations must live only in the root Cargo.toml's dependency registry.
  • No Feature Drift: Shared features should be declared and managed in the root dependency configuration where possible.

3. Workspace Lint Inheritance

To ensure warning levels and Clippy checks are consistently enforced across all crates, every member manifest must inherit the workspace-wide lints definition.

Every member crate's Cargo.toml must contain:

[lints]
workspace = true

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
