gh-stars-classifier-skill: Instructions file for Claude Code

AGENTS.md

gh-stars-classifier-skill AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode from catuscio/gh-stars-classifier-skill. It costs 2,514 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for sorting a user’s starred GitHub repositories into meaningful GitHub Lists.

In plain words
What is it for?
They help verify the GitHub command-line tool and permissions, identify the repository root, propose categories from the starred repositories, and sync them to GitHub Lists.
Why use it?
They define the checks and workflow needed before changing a GitHub account, reducing the chance of running the process without the required login access.

Instructions file for Claude CodeCodexOpenCode

Written for Claude Code and Codex and OpenCode: ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT variable, but also the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions Claude Code; mentions Codex; mentions Gemini CLI.

This is catuscio/gh-stars-classifier-skill's own configuration. It tells Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode how to work on gh-stars-classifier-skill itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything gh-stars-classifier-skill configures →

Runs only inside a plugin — its command needs a path that Claude Code sets for a plugin’s own hooks and for nothing else, and the catalogue could not identify which plugin ships it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02514 $0.02514
Opus 5 $0.01257 $0.01257
Sonnet 5 $0.00503 $0.00503
Haiku 4.5 $0.00251 $0.00251

Measured 8d ago against content hash 29326d828823, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

gh-stars-classifier-skill AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 277 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

GitHub Stars Classifier — Agent Workflow

Canonical, portable workflow shared by every agentic CLI that reads repo-local instruction files (Codex CLI, opencode, Claude Code, Gemini CLI via @import).

Goal: Organize the user's GitHub Stars into semantic categories and sync them to GitHub Lists. Categories are proposed dynamically based on what the user has actually starred — not from a hardcoded keyword table.

When to invoke

The user says things like:

  • "organize my GitHub stars"
  • "classify my starred repos into GitHub Lists"
  • "clean up my starred repositories"

Prerequisites (check first, fail fast)

gh --version # gh CLI installed
gh auth status                                 # authenticated
gh api user --jq .login # prints username
gh auth status 2>&1 | grep -q "'user'" || echo "need 'user' scope"

If user scope is missing: gh auth refresh -h github.com -s user.

Root resolver (run once, before any phase)

Every phase calls scripts under scripts/. Resolve the repo root before the first bash command of the session:

: "${GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT:=${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT:-$PWD}}"
: "${GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT:?set GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT to the gh-stars-classifier-skill clone path}"
test -d "${GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT}/scripts" || {
  echo "scripts/ not found under ${GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT}"; exit 1;
}
  • Claude Code plugin: CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT is auto-set, so the resolver picks it up with no extra work.
  • Codex CLI / opencode / Gemini CLI: cd into the repo clone (so $PWD works), or export GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT explicitly.

Every python3 invocation below uses "${GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT}/scripts/...". Do not invent ad-hoc one-liners — the bundled scripts cover every step.

Workflow

Follow these phases in order. Pause for user confirmation at each [CONFIRM] checkpoint.

Phase 1 — Fetch stars

mkdir -p .gh-stars-workspace
python3 "${GH_STARS_CLASSIFIER_ROOT}/scripts/fetch_stars.py" "$(gh api user --jq .login)" \
  --out .gh-stars-workspace/stars.json \
  --reuse-if-fresh 24

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
