turing_AgentMemory_MCP AGENTS.md

Repository instructions for the Turing AgentMemory MCP project, including its code layout, development commands, style rules, and testing requirements. MCP is a standard way for an AI agent to call tools provided by another program.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing the Python server, storage and retrieval modules, tests, scripts, documentation, frontend, or container configuration.
Why use it?
They provide the project-specific rules needed to edit the code consistently and validate changes before delivery.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00687 $0.00687
Opus 5 $0.00344 $0.00344
Sonnet 5 $0.00137 $0.00137
Haiku 4.5 $0.00069 $0.00069

Measured 2d ago against content hash 7daf76c6b876, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

turing_AgentMemory_MCP AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository Guidelines

Read CLAUDE.md and CONTRIBUTING.md before editing; they define the architecture, security invariants, and validation gates.

Project Structure & Module Organization

Python code lives in src/turing_agentmemory_mcp/. Keep the FastMCP boundary in server.py; separate persistence and retrieval in the existing store_*.py modules. Tests belong in tests/. Scripts and benchmarks live in scripts/, public guidance in docs/, and container files in the root and docker/. Lab web assets are under src/turing_agentmemory_mcp/frontend/.

Build, Test, and Development Commands

  • python -m venv .venv and .venv\Scripts\python -m pip install -e ".[dev]" create the supported Windows development environment.
  • python -m pytest tests/test_hybrid_search.py -q runs a focused test file; make test runs the suite.
  • python -m ruff format --check src tests scripts checks formatting, while make lint checks Ruff rules.
  • docker compose config --quiet validates Compose; make e2e runs the deterministic end-to-end score gate.
  • turing-agentmemory-mcp serve --transport stdio starts the local MCP server.

Coding Style & Naming Conventions

Target Python 3.11 or newer. Use four-space indentation, snake_case for functions and modules, and PascalCase for classes. Ruff selects E, F, I, B, and UP, with a 100-character target (E501 is ignored). Keep tracked Python files below 600 lines. Prefer focused helpers over duplication. Comment only when a constraint or workaround is not obvious from the code.

Testing Guidelines

Use pytest and name files test_<behavior>.py and tests test_<outcome>. Add or adjust tests with behavior changes. Run the narrowest test first, then the full gate: python -m pytest -p no:cacheprovider -q, Ruff format/check, and Compose validation. CI enforces at least 78% coverage and treats skipped integration or gpu tests as failures when those tiers are collected.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
