gemini-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

gemini-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from chrischall/gemini-mcp. It costs 12,487 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for Claude Code in the gemini-mcp repository, which connects Claude to Google Gemini’s media-generation services through a local server.

In plain words
What is it for?
Working with image, video, and music generation, reference files, model listing, uploads, and credential health checks in that repository.
Why use it?
It explains the repository’s environment, architecture, and custom client so code changes can follow the project’s existing setup.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.12487 $0.12487
Opus 5 $0.06243 $0.06243
Sonnet 5 $0.02497 $0.02497
Haiku 4.5 $0.01249 $0.01249

Security

Grade A, and why

gemini-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Guidance for Claude working in this repo.

TL;DR

v0.6.0: Google Gemini image-generation MCP server. Wraps the Generative Language REST API (https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta) and exposes 13 tools to Claude over stdio: text→image and image→image generation, multi-turn conversational editing, consistent image sets, video generation (omni, gemini_video_generate), music generation (Lyria clips/pro, gemini_music_generate), model listing (Nano Banana / Nano Banana Pro family), Files API upload/list/delete, and a credential healthcheck (gemini_healthcheck). Reference images can come from an https URL the server fetches (images_url), a Files API reference (images_file_uris), local file paths, raw base64 / data URIs, or the macOS clipboard; video from a public YouTube URL or a local upload. Video and music ride the same Interactions endpoint as gemini_interact — the tool naming is media-first (gemini_<media>_<action>). Realtime Lyria (WebSocket) is intentionally not implemented (see the video/music design spec).

A hosted deployment additionally serves: gemini_get_upload_url (signed PUT upload URLs — zero-auth-header uploads from a shell), a persistent per-account character/style library (gemini_save/list/delete_character/_style, applied via characters/style params on the generation tools), images_r2_keys inputs, max_wait_ms wait-then-hand-off on generation tools, and a bundle_url zip on multi-image gemini_image_set results.

Auth is a Google API key (GEMINI_API_KEY) sent in the x-goog-api-key header — Gemini does not use Authorization: Bearer. Because the model is baked into the URL path (/models/{model}:generateContent) rather than the body, this is the bearer/direct-API archetype with a custom twist: a thin call() wrapper over the fleet-shared createApiClient (configured with a non-Bearer tokenHeader), not a hand-rolled fetch and not a stock Bearer client.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
