infinitecampus-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

infinitecampus-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from chrischall/infinitecampus-mcp. It costs 3,940 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for infinitecampus-mcp, an MCP server that connects to the Infinite Campus parent portal. It covers setup, commands, tool names, and the server's architecture.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing or maintaining this Infinite Campus integration, including its academic, daily-life, document, and messaging tools.
Why use it?
It gives an agent the project-specific rules needed to build, test, configure, and use the server correctly.

Written for Claude Code: ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT} variable. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code.

This is chrischall/infinitecampus-mcp's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on infinitecampus-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything infinitecampus-mcp configures →

Runs only inside a plugin — its command needs a path that Claude Code sets for a plugin’s own hooks and for nothing else, and the catalogue could not identify which plugin ships it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03940 $0.03940
Opus 5 $0.01970 $0.01970
Sonnet 5 $0.00788 $0.00788
Haiku 4.5 $0.00394 $0.00394

Security

Grade A, and why

infinitecampus-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 199 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

infinitecampus-mcp

MCP server for Infinite Campus (Campus Parent portal). Single-account config; linked districts are auto-discovered via CUPS SSO after primary login. Stdio transport, 20 tools across academics, daily life, documents, messaging, and a credential/district healthcheck.

Commands

npm run build # tsc → dist/ + esbuild bundle → dist/bundle.js
npm run bundle # esbuild only (skip tsc)
npm run dev # node --env-file=.env dist/index.js (requires built dist/)
npm test # tsc typecheck + vitest run (all tests)
npm run test:watch # vitest in watch mode

dist/ is gitignored; CI rebuilds it and npm publish ships it via the files array in package.json. Rebuild locally before publishing or verifying end-to-end.

Tool naming

All tools are prefixed ic_ (e.g. ic_list_grades, ic_get_schedule). Every per-student tool takes district as its first arg; use ic_list_districts to get valid names.

Response shape (view)

src/view.ts holds this server's rung vocabulary (compact | full, defaulting to compact) over viewParam/resolveView/stripMediaUrls/minifiedResult from @chrischall/mcp-utils. All 18 read tools (readOnlyHint: true) take view and answer through viewResponse; ic_download_document does not — it is a write (destructiveHint) whose response is a receipt with nothing to strip.

Compact here strips media URLs and does nothing else. That is the whole projection, and the restraint is the point: this repo holds no captured Infinite Campus payload and no documented field list, so nothing here can honestly say which of IC's fields matter. A media strip is SUBTRACTIVE, so it cannot punch a hole in a record by failing to know about a field — the failure an invented field list would risk, where a half-filled record reads as a verified answer. When a real payload can be captured, a field projection belongs beside it.

There is no raw rung. It is in the fleet vocabulary but not in IC_VIEWS, so the schema rejects view: "raw" rather than the handler silently aliasing it to something else. A tool must never advertise a rung it does not honour.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
