signupgenius-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

signupgenius-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from chrischall/signupgenius-mcp. It costs 7,929 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of Claude Code instructions for developing and configuring the signupgenius-mcp project. The project connects Claude to SignUpGenius, a service for volunteer sign-ups, groups, RSVPs, and event slots.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when working on the signupgenius-mcp codebase, especially its login methods, API calls, sign-up reports, RSVPs, and slot actions. It documents both read and write operations.
Why use it?
It gives coding agents the repository-specific rules needed to understand authentication, environment settings, and available operations. This reduces guesswork when changing or debugging the project.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.07929 $0.07929
Opus 5 $0.03964 $0.03964
Sonnet 5 $0.01586 $0.01586
Haiku 4.5 $0.00793 $0.00793

Security

Grade A, and why

signupgenius-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

TL;DR

MCP server for SignUpGenius — 15 read tools + 4 write across profile, groups, sign-ups, reports, public sign-up metadata, slot listings, authenticated RSVPs, and slot claim/release.

Auth resolution lives in src/auth.ts (Pattern A template — see "Auth resolution" below). Three paths, priority order:

  1. SIGNUPGENIUS_USER_KEY → Pro v2/k key mode (the only mode that can call slot reports).
  2. SIGNUPGENIUS_EMAIL + SIGNUPGENIUS_PASSWORD → session-login (form POST → JWT + cfid/cftoken cookies → v3 API + legacy /SUGboxAPI.cfm).
  3. fetchproxy fallback → @fetchproxy/bootstrap reads accessToken (a.k.a. MTOKEN) + cfid + cftoken + refreshToken cookies from the user's signed-in signupgenius.com browser tab, at the www host (the apex exposes only accessToken). The lift runs lazily per login — first request and every expiry — not once at startup, and exchanges a stale JWT via POST /v3/auth/refresh. Between lifts every API call goes out via direct Node fetch() with the cookies attached. Fetchproxy is not in the request hot path.

SIGNUPGENIUS_DISABLE_FETCHPROXY=1 skips path 3 entirely and turns a missing/partial env config into a hard error at tool-call time — useful for headless CI where the browser bridge can't apply.

Environment

No env vars are required — with none set, the server falls through to the fetchproxy browser bridge (path 3). The three auth paths and their env vars are resolved in src/config.ts (loadAccount()) and src/auth.ts (resolveAuth()). All vars pass through readEnvVar from @chrischall/mcp-utils, which treats empty/whitespace, the literal strings "undefined"/"null", and unsubstituted ${...} placeholders as unset (Claude Desktop sometimes emits these for blank user_config refs).

Priority order: key > full session > fetchproxy > error. A SIGNUPGENIUS_USER_KEY always wins; if both key and EMAIL/PASSWORD are present, loadAccount() logs a precedence warning to stderr and uses key mode.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
