searchconsole-mcp CLAUDE.md

searchconsole-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from chrishart0/searchconsole-mcp. It costs 331 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for a small Python MCP server that provides read-only access to Google Search Console data. Google Search Console shows how a website appears in Google search.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install dependencies, run or build the server, query search analytics, list websites, and list sitemaps.
Why use it?
It gives an agent the repository layout, commands, authentication method, and available tools needed to work on or run the server.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00331 $0.00331
Opus 5 $0.00166 $0.00166
Sonnet 5 $0.00066 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00033 $0.00033

Measured 5d ago against content hash 8a9c5420ef3f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

searchconsole-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

MCP (Model Context Protocol) server providing read-only access to Google Search Console data. Built with FastMCP, Python 3.11+, and the Google API client.

Commands

# Install dependencies
uv sync

# Run the server
searchconsole-mcp

# Build the package
uv build

# Add a dependency
uv add <package>

Architecture

The codebase is small (~186 lines) with a clear separation:

  • searchconsole_mcp/server.py — FastMCP server setup. Creates the mcp instance, registers the three tools, and exports run_server() as the CLI entry point.
  • searchconsole_mcp/tools.py — All tool implementations. Contains _get_service() (builds the Google API client using Application Default Credentials with webmasters.readonly scope) and three tools: list_sites, query_search_analytics, list_sitemaps.

The server communicates over stdio. Each tool call creates a fresh Google API service instance via _get_service(). Tools return plain text or markdown tables.

Authentication

Uses Google Application Default Credentials (google.auth.default()). The environment must have valid Google Cloud credentials configured (service account, user credentials, or GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS env var).

Git Conventions

The default branch is master, not main. Use master for PRs and branch references.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
