In plain words
What is it for?
Developing and testing claude-receipts, an npm package that creates browser-viewable receipt pages from Claude Code sessions, either automatically when a session ends or through command-line commands.
Why use it?
They give the coding agent project-specific context so it can use the right commands and understand how the package works.

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01359 $0.01359
Opus 5 $0.00679 $0.00679
Sonnet 5 $0.00272 $0.00272
Haiku 4.5 $0.00136 $0.00136

Security

Grade B, and why

claude-receipts CLAUDE.md scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

Project Overview

claude-receipts is an NPM package that generates beautiful thermal printer-style receipts for Claude Code usage sessions. It integrates with Claude Code's SessionEnd hook to automatically create HTML receipts that open in the browser when a coding session ends.

Development Commands

# Build TypeScript to JavaScript
npm run build

# Watch mode for development
npm run dev

# Test the CLI locally (after building)
node bin/claude-receipts.js generate
node bin/claude-receipts.js generate --output html
node bin/claude-receipts.js config --show
node bin/claude-receipts.js setup

# Install locally for testing as if installed globally
npm link
claude-receipts generate

# Prepare for publishing
npm run prepublishOnly # Runs build automatically

Architecture

Data Flow

The package operates in two modes:

  1. Hook Mode (automatic): SessionEnd hook → stdin JSON → generate HTML → open browser
  2. Manual Mode: CLI command → fetch recent session → output to console/HTML
SessionEnd Hook
  ↓ (stdin with session_id, transcript_path)
GenerateCommand
  ↓
DataFetcher (calls ccusage CLI) + TranscriptParser (reads JSONL)
  ↓
ReceiptGenerator (creates text) + HtmlRenderer (creates styled HTML)
  ↓
Save to ~/.claude-receipts/projects/[session-slug].html + open browser

Key Components

Commands (src/commands/)

  • generate.ts - Main command; auto-detects if called from hook via stdin
  • setup.ts - Modifies ~/.claude/settings.json to install SessionEnd hook
  • config.ts - Manages user configuration at ~/.claude-receipts.config.json

Core Logic (src/core/)

  • data-fetcher.ts - Executes npx ccusage session --json --breakdown to get usage data
  • transcript-parser.ts - Parses ~/.claude/projects/[path].jsonl for session metadata (slug, timestamps, message counts)
  • receipt-generator.ts - Creates ASCII text receipt with Claude logo, location, costs
  • html-renderer.ts - Generates standalone HTML with embedded CSS (thermal printer aesthetic)
  • config-manager.ts - Handles ~/.claude-receipts.config.json I/O

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
