claude-code-starter-kit review.instructions.md

Review instructions for a starter kit that check whether changes work for both new installations and existing installations being upgraded.

In plain words
What is it for?
They check update commands, configuration defaults, manifests, generated files, hooks, feature flags, and related README, guide, and change-log updates.
Why use it?
They catch setup changes that work on a fresh install but silently fail for users who already have saved settings or deployed files.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00240 $0.00240
Opus 5 $0.00120 $0.00120
Sonnet 5 $0.00048 $0.00048
Haiku 4.5 $0.00024 $0.00024

Security

Grade A, and why

claude-code-starter-kit review.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

When reviewing changes in this repository, explicitly check upgrade-path coverage in addition to fresh-install behavior.

If a pull request adds or changes a feature flag, setup prompt, generated file, profile default, hook, command, settings key, or any other user-visible setup behavior, review whether existing installs are upgraded correctly through setup.sh --update and /update-kit.

Look for cases where a new key is added for fresh installs but older saved config, manifests, or deployed files would silently miss the new behavior. Missing keys on older installs should receive the intended default for that profile, but explicit user choices that already exist must not be overwritten.

Also review whether user-facing documentation was updated in the same pull request when needed. Check for missing updates to:

  • CHANGELOG.md for user-visible behavior changes, new defaults, upgrade behavior changes, or new commands
  • README.md and README.en.md for setup flow, defaults, CLI flags, or prerequisites
  • files under docs/ when configuration mapping, feature behavior, or upgrade behavior changed

If these update-path or documentation concerns are missing, call them out as review findings instead of assuming they can be handled later.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
