hikvision-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

hikvision-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from cormac-rynne/hikvision-mcp. It costs 1,019 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for hikvision-mcp, a local server that lets AI clients safely work with Hikvision cameras. They describe the project's purpose, current scope, architecture limits, and security rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Implementing or reviewing Hikvision camera discovery, configuration, monitoring, approval, auditing, and rollback within the documented scope.
Why use it?
They give coding agents the rules and boundaries needed to change the repository without assuming unsupported camera features or weakening safety controls.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01019 $0.01019
Opus 5 $0.00509 $0.00509
Sonnet 5 $0.00204 $0.00204
Haiku 4.5 $0.00102 $0.00102

Security

Grade A, and why

hikvision-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project purpose

hikvision-mcp is a local, capability-aware MCP server for safely discovering, inspecting, configuring, operating, and monitoring Hikvision cameras.

The Product Requirements Document supplied for this repository is the source of truth. Build incrementally and prefer a small, strongly typed core over broad, loosely defined camera support.

Current implementation scope

The implemented vertical slice covers:

  • TOML configuration and environment-variable secrets;
  • SQLite persistence;
  • MCP stdio and local Streamable HTTP transports;
  • async ISAPI access with digest authentication;
  • identity and capability probing;
  • semantic warning-light configuration using the validated JSON shape;
  • read-only intrusion/field-detection configuration and event linkage;
  • read-only general detection rules, health, stream profiles, image settings, storage, audible-alarm configuration, and two-way-audio configuration;
  • automatic or configured channel selection, per-detector support results, and a model/firmware adapter registry;
  • bounded read-only live event monitoring;
  • proposal, approval, conflict detection, verified apply, audit, and rollback.

Do not describe unimplemented PRD phases as complete. Real hardware XML mappings must be validated against sanitized fixtures from the target firmware before hardware writes are considered production-ready.

Architecture boundaries

Preserve this dependency direction:

MCP tools
  -> CameraService
  -> policy / approval / change storage
  -> semantic CameraAdapter
  -> IsapiClient
  -> camera
  • MCP handlers expose semantic camera concepts, never Hikvision endpoints or XML.
  • Model- and firmware-specific behavior belongs in adapters or a quirk registry.
  • Policy, storage, and MCP modules must not branch on camera model numbers.
  • Use Pydantic models for public semantic inputs and outputs.
  • Return unsupported_capability when support is absent or unknown. Never silently substitute another feature.
  • Partial configuration tools behave like patches: read, merge supplied fields, validate the complete result, then write.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
