couchbase-guru: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

couchbase-guru AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Couchbase-Ecosystem/couchbase-guru. It costs 996 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A repository instruction file for agents working on couchbase-guru, a Python server that answers Couchbase documentation questions through a hosted retrieval system. It documents the project, dependencies, validation steps, and release process.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing, testing, packaging, or releasing the couchbase-guru repository, especially when managing its uv dependencies and documentation agent integration.
Why use it?
It gives automated maintainers the project rules they need before editing or checking the code. It clarifies that the server does not connect to a Couchbase database and needs no Couchbase credentials for development.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00996 $0.00996
Opus 5.5 $0.00398 $0.00398
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00199 $0.00199
Haiku 4.5 $0.00100 $0.00100

Security

Grade A, and why

couchbase-guru AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Agent Instructions for couchbase-guru

Guidance for AI agents and automated maintainers working in this repository. Human contributors should start with CONTRIBUTING.md; release steps live in RELEASE.md.

What this repo is

  • A Python MCP server (couchbase-guru on PyPI) exposing one tool, ask_couchbase_docs, which forwards questions to a hosted documentation (RAG) agent.
  • It does not connect to a Couchbase cluster and has no Couchbase SDK dependency. No cluster or Couchbase credentials are needed for development or validation.
  • Entry point: src/mcp_server.py (couchbase-guru = "mcp_server:main"). Package code: src/cb_mcp/.

Dependencies

  • Package manager is uv with a committed uv.lock. Do not switch to pip-tools, Poetry, or another workflow, and always commit pyproject.toml and uv.lock together.
  • Runtime dependencies (click, fastmcp, httpx) use ranges in pyproject.toml. Refresh the lock within those ranges with uv lock --upgrade. Changing an upper bound (for example a new fastmcp major) changes what PyPI users install, so do it in its own PR and run the live integration test.
  • Dev dependencies under [project.optional-dependencies].dev are exact pins. When bumping ruff, also bump the ruff-pre-commit rev in .pre-commit-config.yaml to the same version.
  • requires-python = ">=3.10,<3.15". CI tests Python 3.10 and 3.13. When testing locally against a specific interpreter, set UV_PYTHON=<version> so uv run does not recreate .venv with the .python-version default (3.13).
  • GitHub Actions are pinned by commit SHA with a version comment. Keep that format when updating actions.

Validation

Run the same gates CI runs (.github/workflows/test.yml):

uv sync --extra dev
uv run ruff check src/ tests/
uv run ruff format --check src/ tests/
uv run pytest tests/ -v --tb=short

Unit tests mock the agent backend and need no network. The live integration test is skipped unless opted in:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
