AGENTS.md

chrysalis-ioc-triage AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from CreamyG31337/chrysalis-ioc-triage. It costs 786 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A PowerShell-based security check for signs of the Chrysalis backdoor, malware associated with the Lotus Blossom cyber-espionage campaign. It checks files, hashes, mutexes, registry entries, and services, with some checks limited to Windows.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to investigate a potentially infected Windows, Linux, or macOS host, scan known locations and extra directories, and check Windows registry entries and services when available.
Why use it?
It helps identify known traces of this malware on a computer instead of requiring a manual search through files and system settings.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00786 $0.00786
Opus 5 $0.00393 $0.00393
Sonnet 5 $0.00157 $0.00157
Haiku 4.5 $0.00079 $0.00079

Security

Grade A, and why

chrysalis-ioc-triage AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Triage – Chrysalis / Lotus Blossom IoC Investigation

Purpose

This project checks a host for Indicators of Compromise (IoC) related to the Chrysalis backdoor and Lotus Blossom (Billbug) campaign described in Rapid7’s write-up. It runs on Windows PowerShell 5.1 and on PowerShell 7+ (Windows, Linux, macOS); registry and service checks are Windows-only and skipped elsewhere.

What Gets Checked

  • Paths – Known install paths (e.g. %AppData%\Bluetooth, C:\ProgramData\USOShared). With -Admin, every user profile's AppData\Bluetooth is checked.
  • File hashes – SHA-256 and SHA-1 of known malicious files (installers, DLLs, loaders, shellcode) in those paths and optionally under extra directories.
  • MutexGlobal\Jdhfv_1.0.1 (Chrysalis single-instance).
  • Registry (Windows only) – Run keys (HKCU/HKLM) for values referencing BluetoothService, update.exe, or -i/-k style arguments.
  • Services (Windows only) – Services named or pointing to BluetoothService/update.exe.

Project Layout

  • iocs.json – Machine-readable IoCs (hashes, paths, mutexes, registry keys, network).
  • docs/chrysalis-iocs.md – Human-readable IoC reference and MITRE mapping.
  • scripts/Check-ChrysalisIoC.ps1 – PowerShell script that runs the checks and writes a JSON report.

How to Run the Check

From the repo root (or with correct relative path to iocs.json):

# Default: paths, hashes in known dirs, registry, mutex, services
.\scripts\Check-ChrysalisIoC.ps1

# Also hash files under given paths (slower)
.\scripts\Check-ChrysalisIoC.ps1 -ScanPaths 'C:\Users','C:\ProgramData'

# Skip registry or mutex
.\scripts\Check-ChrysalisIoC.ps1 -NoRegistry -NoMutex

# Check every user profile's AppData\Bluetooth (run elevated)
.\scripts\Check-ChrysalisIoC.ps1 -Admin

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
