prompt-manager CLAUDE.md

prompt-manager CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from cursor-project/prompt-manager. It costs 662 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a VS Code and Cursor extension that manages reusable AI prompt templates.

In plain words
What is it for?
Installing dependencies, compiling and watching TypeScript, linting, testing, packaging a VSIX extension file, and debugging through the editor's extension host.
Why use it?
They explain the extension's structure, required commands, debugging process, and service arrangement so an agent can change it consistently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00662 $0.00662
Opus 5 $0.00331 $0.00331
Sonnet 5 $0.00132 $0.00132
Haiku 4.5 $0.00066 $0.00066

Measured 4d ago against content hash ce0acd7ea6be, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

prompt-manager CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

Prompt Manager for IDE — a VSCode/Cursor extension for managing and quickly selecting AI prompt templates. Published on the VSCode Marketplace as prompt-manager-for-ide.

  • Engine: VSCode ^1.73.0
  • Language: TypeScript (target ES2020, strict mode)
  • Package Manager: pnpm
  • Entry Point: src/extension.ts → compiled to out/extension.js

Commands

pnpm install # Install dependencies
pnpm compile # Build TypeScript → out/
pnpm watch # Watch mode (auto-recompile)
pnpm lint # ESLint (src/**/*.ts)
pnpm test # Run tests (requires compile first; pretest does both)
pnpm run package # Create .vsix package

To debug: press F5 in VSCode/Cursor to launch the Extension Development Host.

Architecture

Service-oriented singleton pattern

All services are singletons accessed via static getInstance(). The central orchestrator is PromptManager which coordinates all services.

PromptManager (src/models/PromptManager.ts)
├── StorageService — VSCode globalState persistence
├── UIService — Dialogs, quick picks, user interaction
  ├── ClipboardService — Clipboard operations
  ├── ImportExportService — JSON import/export
├── WebViewEditorService — Custom WebView editor panel
  └── ChatIntegrationFactory (Factory pattern)
        ├── CursorIntegrationService
        └── VSCodeIntegrationService

Key patterns

  • Factory patternChatIntegrationFactory uses EditorEnvironmentDetector to auto-detect the running IDE (Cursor vs VSCode) and instantiate the correct chat integration service.
  • Strategy patternPromptActionStrategies (src/strategies/) defines different actions on prompts: copy, send-to-chat, insert-to-editor.
  • EventEmitterPromptManager emits events on data changes; PromptTreeDataProvider listens to refresh the tree view.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
