schoology-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

schoology-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from dajun666/schoology-mcp. It costs 4,013 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for an MCP server that retrieves Schoology course pages through a browser. MCP is a standard way for AI assistants to call external tools; this server logs in through ClassLink and parses rendered pages instead of using a Schoology API.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to install dependencies, store credentials, check the login, inspect course materials, run the MCP server, and perform offline or live checks.
Why use it?
They explain the unusual browser-login process, required setup, available commands, and how to test the scraper.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.04013 $0.04013
Opus 5 $0.02006 $0.02006
Sonnet 5 $0.00803 $0.00803
Haiku 4.5 $0.00401 $0.00401

Measured 10d ago against content hash 4a03ccf649d5, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

schoology-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

What this is

An MCP server (stdio) that scrapes PAUSD Schoology (pausd.schoology.com) with a headless Playwright browser, logging in automatically through the ClassLink SSO portal. There is no Schoology API involved — every tool is "fetch a rendered page, run a BeautifulSoup parser over it".

Commands

source .venv/bin/activate # required in every new shell
pip install -r requirements.txt && playwright install chromium

python scripts/set_credentials.py # store password in the OS keyring (once)
python scripts/login_check.py --show-browser # verify login + dump HTML to dumps/
python scripts/explore_materials.py --course <id> # dump a course's materials pages
python server.py # run the MCP server over stdio
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector python server.py # interactive tool testing
python scripts/check_watch.py --fixtures # offline regression suite over dumps/
python scripts/check_watch.py --live # same checks against the real account

There is no linter or build step, and no unit-test framework — check_watch.py --fixtures is the test suite. Run it after touching any parser, fingerprint or health rule. It needs no network and no data in the account, and it covers the regressions that matter (determinism, time-drift, empty-vs-broken, baseline poisoning, first-run silence).

Beyond that, verification is empirical: re-run login_check.py / explore_materials.py to refresh dumps/, then check parser selectors against the fresh HTML. dumps/ is the de-facto fixture set for parser work — inspect it before changing a selector rather than guessing at markup.

dumps/ must never be committed. It is git-ignored, and it has to stay that way: those files are full pages of a real student's gradebook, inbox and activity feed. The pressure to commit them is real — check_watch.py --fixtures is this repo's test suite and a fresh clone cannot run it without them — but the answer is hand-written synthetic fixtures, never a captured page. The same goes for tools/rclone.conf (OAuth tokens), storage_state.json (live session cookies) and the gdocs-backup*/ exports.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
