dancing-bear: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

dancing-bear copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from dancing-bear-show/dancing-bear. It costs 2,971 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for reviewing and verifying code in a Python monorepo, a repository containing multiple related packages. They describe project structure, command discovery, and rules for checking that reported findings and verification results are real.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when reviewing changes, checking command documentation against actual parsers, running verification, and working across the repository's Python packages.
Why use it?
They help reviewers avoid trusting stale commands, comments, or automated findings without checking them against the code. They also explain how the project's many command-line applications are organised.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02971 $0.02971
Opus 5.5 $0.01188 $0.01188
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00594 $0.00594
Haiku 4.5 $0.00297 $0.00297

Security

Grade A, and why

dancing-bear copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Copilot Code Review Instructions

Project Context

This is a Python 3.11 monorepo containing personal assistant CLIs. It ships 20 packages under src/ — apple_music, calendars, charts, core, desk, diagrams, github_assistant, mail, maker, phone, qlty, resume, schedule, sheets, slides, telemetry, whatsapp, wifi, worker, workflow — of which 19 are agentic-schema apps (core is the shared library). The codebase follows a pipeline architecture with Consumer/Processor/Producer patterns.

All 19 apps support --agentic --agentic-format json (added in #291). Agents are instructed to prefer capsules over --help, which makes a wrong command in a capsule a machine-readable instruction to run something broken — not a stale comment. tests/core_tests/test_capsule_parser_drift.py (#293) resolves every command a capsule advertises against that CLI's real parser schema.

Do not assume the entry point is ./bin/<app> — three differ: apple-music and qlty use -assistant wrappers, and resume goes through ./bin/assistant resume. ./bin/llm inventory --stdout is the authoritative list.

Verification Must Actually Verify

The most valuable findings in this repo's recent history are checks that pass while verifying nothing. A false green is indistinguishable from a real one, so flag any of these on sight:

  • Bare python3 -m unittest (#282). In a worktree an inherited PYTHONPATH resolves imports to the main checkout, so tests run against unmodified source and pass. Require make test, or PYTHONPATH="$PWD/src".
  • qlty check scanning zero files (#282, #289). The exclusion was **/.claude/**, which matched the .claude/ dir inside every agent worktree; a scan there reported ✔ No issues against 0 files. Now narrowed to **/.claude/worktrees/**. Treat a surprisingly clean scan as suspect and confirm the file count.
  • Bare ruff check — there is no standalone ruff on PATH. CI lints through qlty check. Use make lint.
  • A workflow/guard that reports success without doing the work (#287): a dry run of the branch-hygiene workflow found a false-clean inside the workflow written to prevent false-cleans.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
