mnemex: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

mnemex CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from Daniil-Sokolskiy/mnemex. It costs 496 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Development instructions for an AI agent working on mnemex, a monorepo: one project containing several related applications and packages. They explain where to start, how the repository is organized, and which working agreements to follow.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to orient an agent in the mnemex repository, build its pnpm workspaces, find the CLI, wiki, and library server packages, and follow the current development roadmap.
Why use it?
They reduce the time needed to understand the codebase and prevent confusion between developer instructions and a separate product document. They also point agents to current project status and the build process.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00496 $0.00496
Opus 5 $0.00248 $0.00248
Sonnet 5 $0.00099 $0.00099
Haiku 4.5 $0.00050 $0.00050

Security

Grade A, and why

mnemex CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

CLAUDE.md — repo development guide

This file orients an AI agent (Claude Code etc.) working on the mnemex codebase.

⚠️ Do not confuse this with apps/wiki-template/CLAUDE.md. That one is a product artifact — the operating manual copied into every user's wiki to tell the agent how to maintain their knowledge base. THIS file is about developing mnemex itself.

Start here

Read HANDOFF.md — it has current status, the strategic decision, and the phased roadmap. We are keeping mnemex and absorbing the best ideas from two competitors while staying small. Current task: Phase 1 (claim-level provenance + a mini eval harness).

Orientation

  • Monorepo, pnpm workspaces. Build: pnpm install && pnpm -r build. TypeScript strict.
  • packages/library-mcp/ — MCP server that searches/downloads books (Gutenberg + Anna's via Playwright) and ingests them. Entry: src/index.ts.
  • packages/cli/ — the mnemex CLI (init/doctor/mcp install/setup-search/reindex/search).
  • apps/wiki-template/ — the wiki scaffold + operating manual + scripts.
  • Search delegates to external qmd (BM25 + vector, Qwen multilingual embeddings).
  • Open PRs #1/#2 (sogonov) add Windows support — review/merge.

Working agreements

  • Keep the surface small. The moat is book acquisition + multilingual + whole-book methodology, not engine size. Don't reimplement competitors' 28k-LOC engines wholesale.
  • Each roadmap phase must ship independently. Don't start Phase 2 before Phase 1 lands.
  • Verify changes by building (pnpm -r build) and, where relevant, a real run.
  • MCP stdio hygiene. The MCP servers speak JSON-RPC over stdout — never write anything else there. Logs go to process.stderr (see packages/library-mcp/src/index.ts:472); no console.log in a server path; capture child-process output (execFile buffers by default), never inherit it into the parent's stdout. A stray stdout write corrupts the protocol.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
