Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Grade B, and why
vox-machina CLAUDE.md scanned grade B with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

Project Overview
vox-machina is a single-file Bash CLI (vox-machina.sh) that plays random audio clips in response to Claude Code hook events (SessionStart, Stop, Notification, PreToolUse, PostToolUse, PostToolUseFailure, SessionEnd, PreCompact). Users install themed "voice packs" (e.g., GLaDOS, Overmind, Wheatley) and the tool picks a random clip from the matching hook folder.
Architecture
vox-machina.sh— The entire CLI. All commands live here ascmd_*functions dispatched by acaseblock at the bottom. A singlevox_helper()function wraps all Python logic in one heredoc; bash passes data viaVOX_*environment variables (never interpolated into Python source).install.sh— Downloadsvox-machina.shto~/.vox-machina/and symlinks to~/.local/bin/vox-machina.- Voice packs — Directories of audio files organized as
<voice>/<HookName>/*.{wav,aiff,mp3}. Distributed as zip files via GitHub Releases. Stored at~/.vox-machina/voices/. - Config —
~/.vox-machina/config.jsonstoresactive_voice,muted, andvolumestate. Read/written viaconfig_get/config_sethelpers. - Hooks integration —
cmd_hooks_installinjectsvox-machina play <event>commands into~/.claude/settings.json. - Personality system —
cmd_personality_installwrites a voice-themed personality prompt into~/.claude/CLAUDE.md(wrapped in HTML comment markers for clean replacement). Built-in personalities exist for GLaDOS, Wheatley, Overmind, and Gandalf. Voice packs can bundle a custompersonality.mdfile.
Key Details
- No build step, no dependencies beyond bash/python3/curl/unzip and an audio player.
- Audio playback is platform-aware:
afplayon macOS, cascading fallback (paplay>mpv>ffplay>aplay) on Linux. Volume control is supported where the player allows it. - TTS generation (
cmd_generate) supports four engines:say(macOS),espeak(Linux),piper(Linux),glados(API). - Voice packs are gitignored — they're built separately and attached to GitHub Releases.
VOX_MACHINA_HOMEenv var overrides the default~/.vox-machinalocation.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

vox-machina CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository darkcrux/vox-machina (1 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 668 tokens to every session, about $0.0033 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 2 findings (reads agent configuration directories, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
