x-agent: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

x-agent AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from darshitpp/x-agent. It costs 630 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for maintaining x-agent, a collection of small agent skills for different command-line AI tools. They explain where supported tools are listed, where shared references live, and how to keep installed copies identical.

In plain words
What is it for?
They guide adding or updating a CLI skill, changing its flags or references, synchronizing shared files, and checking the result in CI.
Why use it?
They prevent maintainers from guessing which files or tools are supported and help avoid inconsistent documentation or broken skill copies. They also define how changes should be tested.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00630 $0.00630
Opus 5.5 $0.00252 $0.00252
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00126 $0.00126
Haiku 4.5 $0.00063 $0.00063

Security

Grade A, and why

x-agent AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 20d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

x-agent is a set of agentskills.io skills, one per supported CLI. Each <cli>/SKILL.md is a thin entry point that points at shared references. No application code; the product is Markdown plus a maintainer shell wrapper.

Discover, don't assume

This file lists no CLIs or files that change. Look them up:

  • Supported CLIs: ls */SKILL.md (each top-level dir with a SKILL.md is one CLI).
  • Everything that must change for a CLI: git grep -n -i <existing-cli-name> (use a similar, recent CLI such as the latest git log --stat addition as the template) and mirror each hit.
  • Layout and CI details: README.md (directory tree, CI section) and .github/workflows/.

Rules

  • references/ and assets/ at the repo root are canonical. Each skill folder holds byte-identical copies, because skills install standalone. After editing a canonical file, copy it into every skill folder that has it. pytest fails on drift and prints the cp command.
  • SKILL.md stays thin: frontmatter plus "read shared-procedure, read the CLI reference, follow it". Flags, models and version info belong in references/cli-<cli>.md.
  • Frontmatter limits are enforced by scripts/validate-metadata.py (run it with --help).
  • scripts/query-cli.sh is maintainer-only and not shipped; skills never call it.
  • No self-call detection: invoking the same CLI with a different model is a supported cross-validation use case.
  • Document only flags you verified. Check the installed CLI is current (npm view <pkg> version, or npx -y <pkg>@latest --help; for others use the CLI's own update command), then read <cli> --help; otherwise cite the public docs. Mark anything unverified as such in the reference.
  • Changes go through a PR; CI runs integrity, pytest and bats on Ubuntu and macOS.

Adding a CLI or changing its flags

A CLI is touched in five places; find the exact current files with git grep as above rather than trusting a list:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
