learn-agent-skills: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

learn-agent-skills CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from debs-obrien/learn-agent-skills. It costs 635 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A tutorial repository that teaches people to build reusable instruction sets for coding agents. It contains seven lessons, reference implementations, Markdown guides, and scripts rather than a traditional application.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to follow the README Wizard lessons, study finished skill examples, and learn how scripts, references, assets, and evaluations fit into an agent skill.
Why use it?
It gives learners a structured way to understand how agent skills are designed and organized without needing to start from an empty project.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00635 $0.00635
Opus 5 $0.00318 $0.00318
Sonnet 5 $0.00127 $0.00127
Haiku 4.5 $0.00064 $0.00064

Measured 9d ago against content hash 3353ee19867d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

learn-agent-skills CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What This Repository Is

A hands-on tutorial series for building agent skills — reusable instruction sets that teach AI coding agents (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) how to perform specific tasks. Learners follow 7 sequential tutorials to build a "README Wizard" skill that generates polished README files for any project.

This is a documentation-only repository — no application code, no build system, no test framework. Content is Markdown tutorials and Bash scripts.

Repository Structure

  • Tutorials (01_*.md through 07_*.md): Sequential lessons meant to be followed in order. Each contains prompts for learners to paste into their AI agent.
  • .agents/skills/: Contains finished reference implementations of skills built in the tutorials (Copilot/cross-agent path).
  • .agents/skills/readme-wizard/: The main skill built across Tutorials 3-6, with sub-folders for scripts/, references/, assets/, and evals/.
  • assets/: Images used within the tutorial Markdown files.
  • readme-wizard-workspace/: Gitignored directory for skill optimization/eval artifacts.

Key Conventions

  • Skill folder structure follows the Agent Skills open standard: SKILL.md (instructions + YAML frontmatter), scripts/ (deterministic shell work), references/ (domain knowledge), assets/ (data/templates), evals/ (test cases).
  • SKILL.md frontmatter: YAML between --- markers with name and description fields. The folder name must match the name: field exactly.
  • Claude Code users use .claude/skills/ instead of .agents/skills/ — this distinction is noted throughout the tutorials.
  • Shell scripts (scan_project.sh) must be executable (chmod +x).
  • Commit messages use conventional-style prefixes (e.g., refactor:, fix:).

Running the Scripts

Scan a project for metadata (outputs JSON):

bash .agents/skills/readme-wizard/scripts/scan_project.sh <project-directory>

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
