CLAUDE.md

Claude-ast-index-search CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from defendend/Claude-ast-index-search. It costs 1,229 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for AI coding agents working on ast-index, a Rust code-search tool that builds a SQLite index of symbols, references, and file paths across many programming languages.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when building, testing, searching, modifying, or releasing the ast-index project, including its optional MCP server.
Why use it?
They explain the project's structure, commands, technology choices, and rules that must be preserved so changes do not silently break the tool.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01229 $0.01229
Opus 5 $0.00615 $0.00615
Sonnet 5 $0.00246 $0.00246
Haiku 4.5 $0.00123 $0.00123

Measured 13d ago against content hash ef751b0e07e4, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-12, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

Claude-ast-index-search CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

ast-index — Contributor Guide for AI Coding Agents

Fast multi-language code-search CLI written in Rust. Builds a SQLite index of symbols, references, and file paths for ~30 languages via tree-sitter, then answers queries in milliseconds.

.claude/rules/*.md is loaded into every Claude Code session automatically — read those for focused guidance (architecture, commands, parsers, commits, testing, release). This file is the starting point.

Tech stack

  • Language: Rust (edition 2021), MSRV tracks stable.
  • Parsers: tree-sitter grammars (tree-sitter-<lang> crates) + regex fallbacks for Perl, WSDL/XSD, Vue/Svelte scripts.
  • Storage: SQLite via rusqlite, cache at ~/Library/Caches/ast-index/<hash>/ on macOS and $XDG_CACHE_HOME/ast-index/<hash>/ on Linux.
  • CLI: clap derive with a single global --format {text, json} flag.
  • Workspace: two crates — root ast-index (library + binary), crates/ast-index-mcp (MCP server). Default build produces only the root binary; the MCP crate is opt-in via cargo build -p ast-index-mcp.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
