What is it for?
Use it to guide current web research, search X posts, read a specific public page, or retrieve specified X account and post data.

This is Desearch-ai/mcp-desearch's own configuration. It tells Gemini CLI how to work on mcp-desearch itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything mcp-desearch configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00267 $0.00267
Opus 5.5 $0.00107 $0.00107
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00053 $0.00053
Haiku 4.5 $0.00027 $0.00027

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-desearch GEMINI.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Desearch

The desearch MCP server connects to the hosted Desearch endpoint https://mcp.desearch.ai/mcp and sends your Desearch API key in the x-api-key header. Get a key at https://console.desearch.ai/api-keys.

Tools:

  • ai-search: AI search across web and X sources (also arxiv, wikipedia, hackernews, reddit) with relevant links and a summary. youtube is not a tool id.
  • web-search: SERP-style web search. web-links-search: web link search.
  • x-search: tweet search on X. x-links-search: AI search for X post links.
  • extract: read a public URL as text or HTML. Prefer it over web-crawl (legacy route, same arguments).
  • X data tools: x-posts-by-urls, x-post-by-id, x-posts-by-user, x-post-retweeters, x-user-posts, x-user-replies, x-post-replies, x-trends.

Use web-search or ai-search when the user asks for current information from the web, x-search for posts on X, and extract to read a specific page.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
