PixelPilot uiux-anti-dark-patterns.instructions.md

PixelPilot uiux-anti-dark-patterns.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from dev-lou/PixelPilot. It costs 3,180 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Guidelines for designing user interfaces without deceptive or manipulative choices, often called dark patterns. They cover clear costs, consequences, equal treatment, and easy opt-outs.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when designing buttons, subscriptions, pricing, confirmations, and unsubscribe or rejection flows.
Why use it?
They help prevent interfaces that pressure people, hide important information, or make unwanted actions difficult to undo.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.03180 $0.03180
Opus 5 $0.01590 $0.01590
Sonnet 5 $0.00636 $0.00636
Haiku 4.5 $0.00318 $0.00318

Security

Grade A, and why

PixelPilot uiux-anti-dark-patterns.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Anti-Dark Patterns

Dark patterns manipulate users into actions they didn't intend. This file defines what to avoid and how to design ethically. Because trust is the most valuable conversion metric.

CRITICAL RULES

  1. Respect user intent — Make it easy to do what users came to do.
  2. No deception — Never mislead about costs, commitments, or consequences.
  3. Equal treatment — Unsubscribe should be as easy as subscribe.
  4. Clear consequences — Users should understand what will happen.
  5. No manipulation — Avoid exploiting cognitive biases.

THE DARK PATTERNS CATALOG

These are banned in ethical UI design:

1. Confirmshaming

Guilt-tripping users into an action.

❌ "No thanks, I don't want to save money"
❌ "I'll stay uninformed"
❌ "No, I hate discounts"

✅ "No thanks"
✅ "Maybe later"
✅ "Skip"
// Bad
<button>Yes, sign me up!</button>
<button className="text-muted text-sm">
  No thanks, I prefer to miss out on exclusive deals and stay uninformed
</button>

// Good
<button>Subscribe to newsletter</button>
<button>No thanks</button>

2. Trick Questions

Confusing double negatives or misleading wording.

❌ "Uncheck this box if you prefer not to not receive emails"
❌ "Check to opt out of promotional communications"

✅ "Send me promotional emails" (unchecked by default)
✅ "I'd like to receive updates" (clear, simple)

3. Hidden Costs

Revealing fees late in checkout.

❌ Showing "$29.99" then adding "$4.99 handling" + "$2.99 service fee" at checkout

✅ Show total price upfront
✅ Break down costs clearly from the start
✅ "Price includes all fees"
// Transparent pricing component
function PriceBreakdown({ subtotal, shipping, tax, total }: PriceBreakdownProps) {
  return (
    <div className="price-breakdown">
      <div className="price-breakdown__row">
        <span>Subtotal</span>
        <span>${subtotal.toFixed(2)}</span>
      </div>
      <div className="price-breakdown__row">
        <span>Shipping</span>
        <span>{shipping === 0 ? 'Free' : `$${shipping.toFixed(2)}`}</span>
      </div>
      <div className="price-breakdown__row">
        <span>Tax</span>
        <span>${tax.toFixed(2)}</span>
      </div>
      <div className="price-breakdown__row price-breakdown__row--total">
        <span>Total</span>
        <span>${total.toFixed(2)}</span>
      </div>
      <p className="price-breakdown__note">
        No hidden fees. This is your final price.
      </p>
    </div>
  );
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
