lcf-strain-life: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

lcf-strain-life AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from dfieser/lcf-strain-life. It costs 1,699 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for an AI-agent toolkit that analyzes material fatigue, especially low-cycle fatigue. Low-cycle fatigue is damage caused by repeated large strains, and the toolkit is available as a Python library and an MCP server.

In plain words
What is it for?
They are for performing fatigue analysis, including variable loading, cumulative damage, notch effects, statistics, design curves, and high-temperature creep-fatigue.
Why use it?
They help agents preserve the project’s required scientific scope, expose new capabilities through its tools, and report results honestly.

This is dfieser/lcf-strain-life's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on lcf-strain-life itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything lcf-strain-life configures →

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is ../dev/ workspace-level design notes and decision records, outside the repo.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01699 $0.01699
Opus 5 $0.00849 $0.00849
Sonnet 5 $0.00340 $0.00340
Haiku 4.5 $0.00170 $0.00170

Security

Grade A, and why

lcf-strain-life AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Guidance for AI agents working on this repository. This is the cross-tool companion to CLAUDE.md. Both carry the same rules, this one is the canonical source. Keep it short and precise.

Project overview

lcf is an AI-agent-native toolkit for fatigue analysis of materials. It ships as a Python library and an MCP server, so agents can run the full analysis by calling tools. The package covers low cycle fatigue strain-life analysis, variable-amplitude loading, cumulative damage, notch local-strain, statistics and design curves, and elevated-temperature creep-fatigue.

The novelty, do not lose it

The project exists to be used by AI agents first. Every capability must be reachable and useful through the MCP tools and the library API. When you add a feature, expose it as an MCP tool and keep its inputs and outputs agent friendly.

Honesty, mandatory

Be completely honest and never overpromise, in docs, claims, commit messages, and replies. Never claim a capability the code does not have. Report failures as failures. State the source for every equation and dataset, everything used must be publishable and citable. Label unvalidated results as unvalidated.

Scope, stay broad

General purpose and material agnostic. Serve many materials and many fatigue workflows, not one alloy family. The source manuscripts that seeded the equations are provenance only. Do not narrow the goal to one material.

Setup

py -3.13 -m venv .venv
./.venv/Scripts/python.exe -m pip install -e ".[mcp,dev]"

Python 3.11 or newer. No heavy new dependencies beyond numpy, scipy, pandas, matplotlib, pydantic, pyarrow, and the optional mcp SDK.

Build and test commands

./.venv/Scripts/python.exe -m pytest # full suite
./.venv/Scripts/python.exe -m pytest tests/test_fits.py -q # one module
./.venv/Scripts/python.exe -m pytest -W error::DeprecationWarning -W error::FutureWarning

Every change must keep the suite green. Scientific changes must be validated against the golden datasets already in tests, for example SAE 1137 and the ASTM E1049 rainflow example.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
