anki-mcp-server: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

anki-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from dhkim0124/anki-mcp-server. It costs 1,079 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for an Anki MCP server, a service that lets an AI assistant create and manage Anki flashcard decks through conversation. They describe the project's design choices, supported card templates, custom styling, fields, and media.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when designing or implementing the Anki assistant, especially features for creating decks, defining card types, customizing templates, and handling images or audio.
Why use it?
They give the coding agent the project's intended behavior and design boundaries before it changes the code. This helps preserve user control over deck fields, card layouts, CSS, HTML, and media.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01079 $0.01079
Opus 5 $0.00540 $0.00540
Sonnet 5 $0.00216 $0.00216
Haiku 4.5 $0.00108 $0.00108

Security

Grade A, and why

anki-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Claude Code Configuration — Anki MCP Server

Project Overview

This is an Anki MCP Server — a conversational intelligent assistant that enables users to create, manage, and enrich Anki decks through natural language, without needing to interact directly with the Anki interface.

Current Status: In Design (PRD Complete) on branch full-control-anki Main Branch: main (for PRs)

Key Design Decisions

Core Philosophy: Maximum Control

The system is built around maximum user control in custom deck creation:

  1. 4 Predefined Templates for common use cases:

    • Default (Anki standard)
    • Duolingo-style (gamified, green)
    • Dark Mode (nocturnal studying)
    • Code Style (programming)
  2. Custom Complete Mode — Users define:

    • Number and names of fields (Front, Back, Image, Sound, Example, Tips, or any custom combination)
    • Complete CSS (colors, animations, layout, @keyframes, variables)
    • HTML templates with dynamic field references ({{Field}})
    • Card types (Basic, Cloze, or both)
    • Media (images, audio, conditional rendering)
  3. Natural Language to CSS/HTML — The MCP interprets user descriptions ("dark profundo, green menta, fade animations") and generates exact CSS automatically.

No Template Names for Custom Styles

Avoid: Creating named templates like "Tranquil Dark" — these are custom CSS examples, not fixed entities. ✅ Instead: Let users describe styles in natural language and generate CSS dynamically.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
