CLAUDE.md

reddit-research-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from dialog-tools/reddit-research-mcp. It costs 967 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A development guide for a Python MCP server that lets coding agents research Reddit, an online discussion platform. It documents the project's files, versioning, and release process for PyPI and the MCP Registry.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing the server, updating versions, preparing a release, or checking the GitHub Actions workflow that publishes the package.
Why use it?
It keeps package versions and registry metadata aligned and explains how tagged releases are published automatically. This reduces mistakes when maintaining or releasing the server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00967 $0.00967
Opus 5 $0.00483 $0.00483
Sonnet 5 $0.00193 $0.00193
Haiku 4.5 $0.00097 $0.00097

Measured 9d ago against content hash 7508c323329e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-09, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

reddit-research-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Reddit Research MCP Server - Development Guide

Project Overview

This is a Python MCP server built with FastMCP that provides Reddit research capabilities. It's published to:

  • PyPI: reddit-research-mcp
  • MCP Registry: io.github.king-of-the-grackles/reddit-research-mcp

Key Files

File Purpose
pyproject.toml Python package configuration, version, dependencies
server.json MCP Registry configuration
README.md Must contain mcp-name: line for registry validation
.github/workflows/publish-mcp.yml CI/CD for PyPI + MCP Registry publishing

Releasing New Versions

Automated Release Process

  1. Update versions in both files (must match):

    • pyproject.toml: version = "X.Y.Z"
    • server.json: "version": "X.Y.Z" (in both places)
  2. Commit and tag:

    git add pyproject.toml server.json
git commit -m "chore: bump version to X.Y.Z"
    git tag vX.Y.Z
    git push origin main --tags

  3. GitHub Actions automatically:

    • Builds the Python package
    • Publishes to PyPI
    • Updates server.json version from tag
    • Authenticates to MCP Registry via GitHub OIDC
    • Publishes to MCP Registry

Required GitHub Secrets

  • PYPI_TOKEN: PyPI API token scoped to reddit-research-mcp package

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
