project-starbeam: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

project-starbeam AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from dkyazzentwatwa/project-starbeam. It costs 3,979 tokens per session, scanned C, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository guidance for coding agents working on Starbeam V2, an ESP32-based system for analysing and transmitting radio signals across several frequency bands.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when compiling firmware, testing builds without hardware, monitoring serial output, or changing the radio-analysis platform.
Why use it?
It provides the project overview, build commands, hardware connection details, and legal limits around radio transmission and security testing.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03979 $0.03979
Opus 5 $0.01989 $0.01989
Sonnet 5 $0.00796 $0.00796
Haiku 4.5 $0.00398 $0.00398

Security

Grade C, and why

project-starbeam AGENTS.md scanned grade C with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Project Overview

Project Starbeam V2 is a multi-band RF signal intelligence platform built around the ESP32-WROOM-32D microcontroller with multiple RF modules (NRF24L01 and CC1101) for signal analysis, generation, and manipulation across 2.4 GHz and 433 MHz bands. It includes optional HackRF One integration for extended frequency coverage up to 6 GHz.

CRITICAL LEGAL NOTICE: This is a security research and educational platform. RF transmission, jamming operations, and WiFi security testing features are strictly regulated. Only operate on permitted frequencies with proper authorization. This tool is intended for authorized security testing, educational contexts, and research environments.

Important: Repository Structure

This repository contains two firmware versions:

  • starbeam_v1/ - Original monolithic firmware (~1000+ line single .ino file)
  • starbeam_v2/ - Modular refactored firmware (current development focus)

Unless explicitly working on V1, all development should target starbeam_v2/.

Development Environment Setup

Arduino IDE Configuration

  1. Install Arduino IDE 2.x from https://www.arduino.cc/en/software/

  2. Add ESP32 Board Support:

    • File → Preferences → Additional Board Manager URLs
    • Add: https://dl.espressif.com/dl/package_esp32_index.json
    • Tools → Board → Boards Manager → Install "esp32" by Espressif Systems
  3. Required Libraries (Install via Arduino Library Manager):

    • Adafruit GFX Library
    • Adafruit SSD1306
    • U8g2_for_Adafruit_GFX
    • RF24 by TMRh20
    • ELECHOUSE_CC1101_SRC_DRV by LSatan
    • ESP32 BLE Arduino (included with ESP32 board support)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

project-starbeam AGENTS.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository dkyazzentwatwa/project-starbeam (313 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 3,979 tokens to every session, about $0.0199 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it C with 2 findings (downloads and executes remote code, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
