redhat-security-data-api-mcp CLAUDE.md

redhat-security-data-api-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from dmc5179/redhat-security-data-api-mcp. It costs 1,550 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Project instructions for a TypeScript MCP server that connects coding agents to Red Hat’s Security Data API. The server provides typed tools for CVEs, CSAF security advisories, and OVAL data streams.

In plain words
What is it for?
Finding CVEs and advisories, checking affected products and fixes, and retrieving OVAL security definitions for Red Hat products.
Why use it?
It gives an agent access to current Red Hat security information instead of relying only on remembered or outdated details.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.01550 $0.01550
Opus 5 $0.00775 $0.00775
Sonnet 5 $0.00310 $0.00310
Haiku 4.5 $0.00155 $0.00155

Measured 4d ago against content hash 6a69f6a121c4, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

redhat-security-data-api-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Red Hat Security Data API MCP Server

What This Is

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server written in TypeScript that wraps the Red Hat Security Data API v1.0. It gives LLMs like Claude live access to query CSAF advisories, CVEs, and OVAL stream data through six typed tools.

Project Structure

src/
index.ts MCP server entry point — registers all 6 tools on stdio transport
  api-client.ts HTTP client — fetch-based, gzip-aware, configurable base URL
  tools/
    csaf.ts search_csaf, get_csaf_details (Zod schemas + handlers)
    cve.ts search_cves, get_cve_details
    oval.ts list_oval_streams, get_oval_stream
skills/
  redhat-security-data/
SKILL.md Claude skill — investigation patterns, tool chaining, domain knowledge
docs/
building.md Build from source, container (Podman), env vars
claude-desktop-setup.md Claude Desktop and Claude Code MCP client config
tools.md Parameter reference for all six tools
Containerfile Multi-stage production build (node:20-alpine)
build.sh Podman container image build script
podman-compose.yml Local testing with podman compose

Tech Stack

  • Language: TypeScript (Node.js v20+, ES2022, Node16 module resolution)
  • MCP SDK: @modelcontextprotocol/sdkMcpServer class with StdioServerTransport
  • Validation: zod — all tool inputs have Zod schemas with LLM-facing descriptions
  • HTTP: Native fetch (no axios) — the API returns gzip by default and fetch handles it
  • Container: node:20-alpine, multi-stage build, runs as node user

MCP Tools

Tool API Endpoint Purpose
search_csaf GET /csaf.json Search advisories by date, severity, CVE, package, RHSA ID
get_csaf_details GET /csaf/{RHSA_ID}.json Full CSAF/VEX document for one advisory
search_cves GET /cve.json Search CVEs by date, severity, CVSS, CWE, package, product
get_cve_details GET /cve/{CVE_ID}.json Full CVE details: severity, CVSS, affected releases, mitigation
list_oval_streams GET /oval/ovalstreams.json List OVAL v2 streams by label or date
get_oval_stream GET /oval/ovalstreams/{BASE}.json OVAL definitions for a product (e.g. RHEL9)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
