Project instructions for an MCP server that connects an AI assistant to Drupal, a content management system, using authenticated access and discovered tools.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing this Drupal integration, planning or executing tasks, fixing tests, or running its TypeScript development and production commands.
Why use it?
It gives coding agents the project context, task-management commands, and commands for building, developing, and running the server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.02076 $0.02076
Opus 5 $0.01038 $0.01038
Sonnet 5 $0.00415 $0.00415
Haiku 4.5 $0.00208 $0.00208

Measured 4d ago against content hash 810492123f1c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

drupal-bridge-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that bridges Claude AI with Drupal CMS via OAuth 2.1 authentication. It implements dynamic tool discovery using the emerging A2A (agent-to-agent) protocol standard, allowing Claude to interact with Drupal content through discovered tools.

Key architecture: HTTP-based MCP server with per-session Server+Transport instances, OAuth device flow authentication, and dynamic tool registration from Drupal's /mcp/tools/list endpoint.

Development Commands

Build and Run

  • npm run build - Compile TypeScript to dist/
  • npm run dev - Run in development mode with auto-reload (uses tsx)
  • npm start - Run production build from dist/
  • npm run start:debug - Run with DEBUG=mcp:* logging enabled

Testing

  • npm test - Run Jest unit tests
  • npm run type-check - TypeScript type checking without emitting
  • npm run manual:oauth - Manual OAuth flow test script (interactive, requires .env.test)

Environment Configuration

  • Copy .env.example to .env for local development
  • Required variables: DRUPAL_BASE_URL, OAUTH_CLIENT_ID, OAUTH_CLIENT_SECRET
  • Set AUTH_ENABLED=true to enable OAuth (default: true)
  • Set OAUTH_FORCE_DEVICE_FLOW=true for headless OAuth flow
  • LOG_LEVEL controls pino logging verbosity (default: info)

Architecture Overview

Core Components

  1. MCP Server (src/index.ts)
    • Entry point: DrupalMCPHttpServer class
    • Creates per-session Server+Transport instances (Map<sessionId, {server, transport}>)
    • Handles session lifecycle: creation, token extraction, cleanup
    • Routes requests to correct transport based on mcp-session-id header

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
