eai-gofer: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/gofer-cost.instructions.md

eai-gofer gofer-cost.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from eai-support/eai-gofer. It costs 198 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of instructions for controlling which AI models and how much context Gofer uses during staged work. It treats a repository file as the source of the model choices.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before running Gofer stages, starting agents, or loading large files. It helps choose models, reuse cached context, save research results, and checkpoint work.
Why use it?
It helps reduce unnecessary model costs and keeps long search, build, and test output from filling the main conversation. It also records findings so later stages can continue from summaries.

Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

Written for GitHub Copilot: a Copilot instructions file.

This is eai-support/eai-gofer's own configuration. It tells GitHub Copilot how to work on eai-gofer itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything eai-gofer configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00198 $0.00198
Opus 5 $0.00099 $0.00099
Sonnet 5 $0.00040 $0.00040
Haiku 4.5 $0.00020 $0.00020

Security

Grade A, and why

eai-gofer gofer-cost.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Gofer Token And Cost Policy

Before running Gofer stages, spawning agents, or loading large files:

  • Treat .specify/memory/gofer-model-policy.yaml as the repo-owned model policy. Use Copilot Auto for simple/default work unless the user explicitly chooses a specific model.
  • Use the cheapest capable model first. Escalate only when a cheaper pass is low-confidence, contradictory, security-sensitive, release-critical, or blocking quality.
  • Keep raw search, build, and test output out of the main chat context. Write stable findings to .specify/specs/{feature}/context-bundle.md and continue from summaries.
  • Prefer provider prompt/context caching for stable non-secret prefixes: Gofer scaffold, repository instructions, constitution, repo map, stage contracts, and validation rubric.
  • After large research, planning, implementation, or validation bursts, checkpoint artifacts and compact/clear/resume context when the host supports it.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
