HestAI-MCP copilot-instructions.md

HestAI-MCP copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from elevanaltd/HestAI-MCP. It costs 396 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of code-review instructions for Copilot, an AI coding assistant, on the HestAI-MCP Python server.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when reviewing HestAI-MCP pull requests or code for issues such as injection risks, missing type hints, faulty logic, weak error handling, and excessive coupling.
Why use it?
It focuses reviews on security, correctness, type safety, error handling, and architecture while avoiding complaints about intentional project conventions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00396 $0.00396
Opus 5 $0.00198 $0.00198
Sonnet 5 $0.00079 $0.00079
Haiku 4.5 $0.00040 $0.00040

Measured 4d ago against content hash 7fcee91532fd, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

HestAI-MCP copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Copilot Code Review Instructions

Project Context

HestAI-MCP is a Python MCP server providing context management tools for Claude Code. Stack: Python 3.11+, Pydantic, MCP protocol. Full type hints required.

Review Focus

When reviewing pull requests, prioritise these areas in order:

  1. Security: Input validation, injection risks, secrets exposure, OWASP Top 10
  2. Correctness: Logic errors, edge cases, off-by-one, null/None handling
  3. Type Safety: Missing or incorrect type hints, Pydantic schema mismatches
  4. Error Handling: Bare excepts, swallowed errors, missing error paths
  5. Architecture: Coupling, abstraction leaks, violation of existing patterns

Code Standards

  • Line length: 100 chars
  • Linting: ruff + black
  • Type checking: mypy (strict)
  • All public functions require docstrings
  • Tests in tests/ mirroring src/ structure

What NOT to Flag

  • Do not flag OCTAVE format files (*.oct.md) for markdown issues — these use a domain-specific notation that is intentionally non-standard markdown.
  • Do not suggest adding comments to self-explanatory code.
  • Do not flag conventional commit message format in PR titles.
  • Do not suggest restructuring test files — they mirror src/ by convention.

Governance Files

Files under .hestai-sys/ and .hestai/ are governance/configuration files. Review these for structural correctness only, not code style.

Severity Guide

  • Critical: Security vulnerabilities, data loss risks, broken functionality
  • Major: Logic errors, missing error handling, type safety violations
  • Minor: Style inconsistencies, naming suggestions, minor improvements
  • Nit: Formatting, optional improvements — keep these minimal
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
